I've posted in the new lounge too, but it was suggested there that this may be a better place...

I am a kiwi currently traveling around the UK on my own, and I would love to go to Badminton. As far as I can see the only way to go if you don't have a car is to go on an organised tour. I was hoping some more experienced locals might have some tips? Or if anyone is going camping and has a spare spot for one more keen eventer?

Will pay for all my expenses of course, and can talk horses for hours!

Well, I live only half an hour's drive away, but sadly I wont be staying there. I am up on my own to wander around the Grassroots Champs and hit the trade stands, for some serious horsey shopping, then the following day its a horsey mum's day out at the 1st dressage day, and then will take Mini TX on xc day to complete our eventing fix, walk the xc course and generally scare ourselves silly at the huge fences, feeling very smug because we are safe on the ground.

Why dont you consider hiring a car and driving up? Bristol is only half an hour away and there are loads of car hire companies. Alternatively, I have a feeling a few HHOers take their lorries and camp out. I have done this in my past, but none of my horsey friends is going this year, apart from the horsey mums day trip.

Have fun though, I love badders.

Badminton is great to watch, on all days. If you are feeling adventurous, book a ticket, buy a tent and set up camp when you get there. There is a large camp site for spectators who want to spend more than one day watching. Am sure there will be plenty of others on this forum who would be happy to meet up and discuss the day's thrills and spills. Have fun!

Why don't you join the Badminton page on FB and post your question there?
Looking on Badminton website it looks like there are only some small tent spaces available on the campsite, but I must warn you that if the weather is bad (and it can be at that time of year) then it will be miserable in the tent at night - you can tell that I'm no camper.

It is pretty inaccessible without a car and so hiring one would definitely be the best way. On X Country day you will need to get there really early to avoid spending too much time in traffic queues.

Probably best to go for 2 days if you can, one day for the shopping (yes, really!) and then X Country), but then again you may as well do the Show Jumping day as well so you can watch the Vetting trot up in the morning (again you will need to bag your spot VERY early as there are hundreds who watch it)

Good Luck and hope you will find some way of getting there as it really is an experience.
