Getting to the Olympics Train advise please

Oh heck - now I am having a bit of a panic as Mum and I have tickets for Dressage Team medal day and I had planned to get the train (from Shropshire) to Greenwich via Euston.....I fondly imagined that Greenwich station was near the Olympic venue!
Mum is 67 and not really used to crowded places and I was reassuring her it will be fine, train right to venue etc!
How far is it from Greenwich station? I have NO CLUE :(

Greenwich station is really close to the Park. Its 10 minutes walk at most. You just pop on the Northern Line to London Bridge and then get an overground to Greenwich.

Phew thanks! Train ticket just says "to Greenwish for the Games".
Perhaps they ought to add a note that there is a walk of 10 mins to get to venues?!
Wonder if there will be any help for disabled/slow people?

I work in the Maritime museum, just in front of the stadium. I can see it getting built every day :D and get to walk to work through the park and hunt out Cross-Country Fences.

I don't know about help, I can't imagine it'll be possible there unlike the actual Olympic Stadium, but its all a flat surface, no hills or anything to get there from the station.

i'll do some investigating :)

I'm going from Clapham junction (nearest station from where I'm staying Sunday night) - northern line to London Bridge, then Jubilee line to Canary Wharf, then DLR to Greenwich .... think that works!?
I'll meet you all there - I'll be the crazy over excited one being very patriotic (go team GB) along side my 'should-know-better' mother of a certain 'older' age!! lol:eek:

Fools motto - you're much better off getting the mainland train from London Bridge to Greenwich, it takes 8 mins (usually!) jubilee then DLR will take much longer than that - but could be a useful back up plan!

You can't get the Northern line from Clapham Junction, instead it's either Clapham South, Clapham North or Clapham Common.

But I think getting an mainline to London Bridge is probably the easier option :)

Arhh, didn't know that - will re-look at my map... maybe I got the name wrong... Clapham 'something'!! Arhh

That was my sole experience of it on a good day though so who knows? :D

Don't forget OP you'll have to leave time for the security checks once you arrive :)
I would also advise that you take your own vaseline, for the body cavity search!

The friend I am going with on one day just told me he plans to go from Paddington get on the circle line get of , I can't remember the station , and get on the DLR to greenwich , could it be that easy ?

Meerkat 2 - it could be that easy, you could change at bank/monument to get the DLR - it'll take quite a while that way round though! Probably 1.15 mins at least.

I'm also arriving into Euston for both Dressage Eventing and XC days (Sun and Mon).

Have booked train tickets - is Northern Line to London Bridge then DLR to Greenwich the best bet? Ho long do you reckon to allow?

I go into Euston a lot but never onwards in Greenwich direction and it is years since I lived in London town (student days)

You can't get a DLR at London bridge, but you can transfer onto the overground line. I used to do that coming back from St Pancras (stop before) all the time when I was at university. If you get all the connections, it should take between 30-40 minutes.

I work in London and commute in from Essex so I've already got a season ticket for that bit, so I think I am going to go to Stratford on the overground and then get the DLR to Greenwich.

I see that gates normally open 2hrs before the event, but on xc day it starts at 12.30 but gates open at 8.30! I think I will just be travelling in at my normal work time.

Thanks Joeyjojo the time doesn't bother me but I am going with my mum on 3 days and she is in her 60s and although very fit don't want to be getting on and off trains too many times
