Does anyone have an more ideas how to get a white tail back to white again or have I got a permanently stained tail? I've tried to wash it with yellow fairy liquid, white vinegar, purple shampoo, a Daz equivalent (not at the same time) but it's still got terrible stains at the bottom. I keep it in a plait at all times to try and reduce it getting into the stream... Does anyone else have any further ideas or has it got a permanent stain now?

Hi, get yourself the best blue or purple shampoo you can and add a good slug of purple spray to it, soak tail and lather up with this until the suds turn white, leave in for five mins and rinse, repeat 2 to three times (although I would only repeat on the lower part of the tail). If you want you can then rinse and follow with a bucket of water with half a tube of steradent tablets in it, then a final rinse. Whenever heavy rain is due, wet the lower tail (leave unplaited) put a weak solution of the purple spray/shampoo mix in it and turn out your horse, the rain will eventually rinse the suds away and the tail will have had a good wash. This is my boy after the above treatment. For shows, I plait the night before having brushed in a good helping of chalk, I then brush this out just before the show.
