My soon to be 2 year old cob has lost a little bit of weight coming out of winter, you can lightly see her ribs (don't worry she isn't an rspca case). The grass isn't very long but is obviously now growing. Shes currently on 2 and a half large scoops of youngster mix and chaff. She also has a huge pile of hay each day (she's lives out). should I buy her a weight gainer type food or leave her since the grass is coming up? Thanks.

I hate hate to see fat young horses , some of my homebreds never carried any condition until they slowed down their growth around three/ four years old .
Obviously I have not seen your horse so can't judge but if the horse is getting some quality nutrients I would not worry and I would not be giving conditioning type foods

At 2 you want him to grow not get fat, feed enough for growth and a light covering. Letting a young horse get too weighty means that their limbs are put under stress.

Spring grass will be coming through now and he will soon look better

I had been concerned about my TBs weight loss over winter and had been feeding him up, have had to stop it now though, with that and the grass, he's suddenly ballooned! I would wait if I were you, the grass will do the job.

You should be able to see a rib on a young horse under three, as long as it has decent musculature. With the onset of spring grass I doubt that you should be feeding anything extra.
