getting white horses clean

hi im a new member that needs help ive got a gorge piebald gelding that is impossible to keep clean poo stains on back legs and bum especialy any ideas on products

Green/Blue washing up liquid and 38p tesco value blue shampoo

I was at a show last summer, and there was a lady there who shows hairy traditional cobs and her horse's feathers were amazing! I politely asked her how she got them so clean, and her reply was: Hose them down with clean water everytime you bring them in from the field, and washing up liquid before the show.

I find cheap shampoo with a couple of squirts of Whitener Spray works wonders for white manes too.

At a show last year I saw a fabulous piebald with the cleanest, whitest feathers I have ever seen. i asked his owner how she kept them so clean and she replied "I don't let them get dirty in the first place"

I'm still not sure if she was joking or not.

Lemon washing up liquid will work as lemon is a mild bleach. Personally I think alot of elbow grease works wonders, but have also heard fab stuff about cowboy magic shampoos.

The Cowboy Magic spray on stuff is amazing - you watch it literally dissolve dirt and stains in front of your eyes.

For the white bits the best thing I have found is Quiksilver, I have a grey by the way and I always get comments about how clean he is.

I use a stain removing shampoo, then use 'Supreme products' whitener powder. It's a powder you can put into your rinse water, or make it in to a paste and leave on the legs then brush out. It makes them seriousaly white! They also do a 'blue bag' type powder which is good for yellow stains.

Some interesting tips on here which I am glad to read about as Mcfly my daughter's horse ( piebald cob) is mostly white and does get terrible stains when we leave the rugs off lol.

I also use Quicksilver and lots of chalk powder mixed with water to form a paste i paint there legs then bandage them up
also on the last rinse put some chalk powder in the water, then just brush them off in the morning

I use the Supreme products whitener powder on mine too. Mix it into a paste to look like yoghurt and then plastered it on the white bits and left it over night and brushed out the next day. Snow white neddy!!!

flints tail is always filthy at the bottom (wee, mud etc) so the day beofre a show and i only do it below the dock!!... i use persil hadn wash, its really gritty and leave it for 20 mins then wash it out then shampoo. i cant remember what shampoo i use but its a white bottle with purple writing on and its purple the shampoo!
