Does anyone have any tips for getting a white horse white??
I have tried various things but I always end up with a yellow looking horse

My favorites good old fashioned washing up liquid, although you do have to be careful if you have a horse with sensitive skin. Have you tried any of the shampoos specially made for greys etc?

washing up liquid for mane and tail tesco own make 19p bottle is great and genal shampoo for body finished off with a rub over on damp clath with detol we used to use it on sj yard or a shampoo that is coloured purple as colour in it helps brighten coat blue for bays orange for chetnuts always used for me !!:)

Thanks a lot folks, there are a good few choices there, think i will have a go with the blue rise.
A friend of mine was just on the phone and told me to try Oxy stain remover what you put in the washing machine?

Any 'whitening' shampoo really, and lots of elbow grease. And chalk;)

I have what is MEANT to be a brown and white pony. Usually he's just brown. And after he spent a couple of months last summer playing in the bog he was brown and orange. Properly You've-Been-Tango'd orange, to the fetlocks. The acidic marsh had burnt his feathers and dyed them orange

Nothing shifted it and they just had to grow out, but they eventually did, and lots of scrubbing and shampooing resulted in this

Don't use anything you wouldn't put on yourself onto any hair next to skin, so shampoo only. But you can use pretty much anything you like on the tail. I found Vanish Oxy-action didn't work that well

With No 1 Little Grey Welshie who loved her mudpacks, we found Cowboy Magic was the best whitening shampoo, we used to wash with ordinary shampoo to get the worst off then in Cowboy Magic, and used Daz for the tail - soak it in well wrapped in a bag for a while then rinse off thoroughly, add hair conditioner for blondes. and rinse, allow to dry and it brushed out lovely. Here she is looking trim and clean unlike her current muddy self!

Wahl's Diamond White is my shampoo of choice. it has a purpley tinge to it, which makes whites whiter.
Cowboy magic for spot stain removal.

Remember prevention is better than cure -
7 day mud-away for keeping tails clean (er).
plaiting the mane keeps it cleaner.
A nice deep bed prevents stable stains.
a clean rug and a clean headcollar

Having sensitive skin myself, I don't think it's fair to use products meant for laundry as I know how my own skin reacts to them, and I wouldn't want my horse to experience that.

well you have to get on a maintenance programme.. tails and manes once a week, stable stains every day, mud and grime once a week! you cant leave said beast for weeks and expect it to wash up white! blue shampoos are good, as is the original blue bag as a final rinse. but it is an ongoing job to keep them glowing white!

He is beautiful

And most definintly doesn't look like that normally! He is currently a beige and brown.

Word of warning for the purple soap - wash it out properly!!!!!

When we were at the Higland the class before us were non-native coloured and three of them where PURPLE and brown/black

It was a horrible, miserable day and when they got wet again it was very obvious that the shampoo hasn't been completely washed out.

Tresemme shampoo 'for removing everyday grime'

Brite white - it's the darkest purple shampoo I've ever found.

Lots of washing and lots of rinsing.

Agree about keeping on top of it as well! They don't come white in one wash sadly.

You can keep tails clean by putting them in a bag, and Star's tail lives in plaits to keep it out of the poo and wee. Apparently, oil and sulphur are good at whitening stained feather.

use tonnes of water and shampoo and do a full wash twice. rinse really well and use a soft brush to scrub with!
i use asda own shampoo for about 60p! works well
i also try to wash legs once a week to maintain them.
luckily tail is black!
