My youngster will let me do anything to him, but if someone new to him walks upto him he will get really frightened and try and back off or run away which is a problem when vet, farrier or judge comes is this normal or do i need to do something about it and if so what?

I don't know, mine mugs everybody possible for attention.

Mind you she is quite a confident yearling.
Could you not get some friends to come and do things with her so she realises that people are not bad.
Do you know her history? Has she any reason to be dubious with people?

i got him from the stud that bred him but i don't think he had a lot of handling, i think he has just sort of latched onto me, he is terrified of vet and farrier ever since he was gelded but that was february

yes normal if horse has not had much handling or had bad handling before you. try enlisting some of your horsey friends to come over one at a time , once he alows them to touch him without any fear ask them to brush him and pet him ,pick his feet up etc. take all this very slowly one step at a time making sure he is comfortable with things before moving on. do this with at least three difarent people at difarent times. try doing this over a period of a few weeks, hope this works for you.

Hi,

I have a WC xWB and she is a little like that, a bit anxious with new people. She will not let anyone catch her but me, and i just don't know why!

All I can suggest, is get anyone at the yard to possibly pat him or scratch him somewhere nice if they have the time, so he gets used to people being nice and the possibility of something nice happening to him.
