but some people i know, if one of their horses has a sarcoid they get them band things (cant remmeber their name) and wrap it round the sarcoid and wait for it to drop off, by cutting off the blood circulation(sp) so it wont bleed after

would that work?

pony has 2 sarcoids, not causing him any problem. just seeing what peoples methods are, i would go with the vets method as im sure most of you will.

what are your opinions?

Mine has a sarcoid on his sheath and I've just left it well alone. If it changes size then I will seek the vets oppinion. Have heard they band them like a flap of extra skin on humans which they tie.

thats where dougs is aswell. apart from he has 2. one is quite big aswell.

My old pony had a sarcoid on her chin. We got some herbal cream (cant remember its name though) and the sarcoid fell off after a few weeks of applying the cream. This was about 10 years ago, and it has never grown back!

One of our mares had two big bulbous lumps that someone on the yard called 'dangleberries' lol and when i spoke to vet she said it was a type of sarcoid and we should band it or tie a piece of tail hair around it. I was a bit worried but it was on the inside of her flank opposite each other and they were rubbing together so we put a plaiting elastic around the one that looked safest to do and it fell off - it was amazing and has never come back and the other one doesnt bother her. Not something I would have tried without my vet recommending though and I trust her completely.

it totally depends what type of sarcoids they are, there is 1 type which is basically like a big marble of fatty stuff, and these can be 'popped out' really easily (my vet used to just nick the skin with a scalpel and then apply pressure to the base and they'd pop out leaving a nice clean hole.) others look like this but have a really firm root, usually around big blood vessels - e.g. inside hind legs up high. tying them off might work with these 2 types, i don't see how it would work with the other types e.g. verrucose, which are really aggressive and flat.

one of my mares was banded, Well, it was supposed to be. The vet went to put the band around it and it came away in his hand!!
This was the bulbous haning off type. not the flattish ones!

tieing it wont really do much difference...don't they just grow back? thats why people have to get them lasered off?? well i thought it was anyway.

but if they arent growing in size, or changing in anyway, or irritating your horse/pony, there isnt any need to do anything to them...but if you're unsure, contact your vet

Was it Thuja cream? I'm quite interested as PF has had a sarcoid for ages near her udders, and recently (perhaps due to pregnancy) it's definitely bigger... perhaps time to do something about it...

It depends on the type. We had a filly arrive with a huge bulbous sarcoid between her front legs. It was banded/tied off by the vet and eventually fell off somewhere in the field

. We just had to wash the area daily with hibiscrub once it was off and apply fly cream (mid-summer) and 4 years on there's no sign of regrowth.

PF - If it's fairly large then yes probably time to do something about it. Don't want foalie sucking on it, that prob wouldn't go down too well with PF!

No, don't think it would go down too well. Sarcoid is biggish, bulbous, but not sore... yet. Will get vet to have a look at it
