My saddler is bringing a dressage one today to try on my horse and was just wondering what people thought of them? I hadn't heard of them before but the gp one he showed me last time he was here looked nice.
I'd be insterested to know too! The GFS leather saddles are nice saddles but I've never seen a Genesis in the flesh. I have to say they look awfully like wintecs in the pictures
yeah i had a leather GFS many years ago and really liked it. I've seen the synthetic GP in the flesh and thought it looked nice but will have another good look later (if the saddler makes it through the snow thats currently falling - fingers crossed!!!). Will let you know what i think.
The wintec's don't fit my boy, completly the wrong shape and we tried a thorowgood griffin too and that didn't fit either. Unfortunately my budget isn't that big and my lad is still growing so my saddler is trying the synthetic/adjustable gullet route at the mo to try and save me the cost of buying another in 6 months!!!
Have you tried the new Thorowgood range? They are slightly different from the older griffin/maxam range and one of the types (standard, high withered or cob) is likely to suit.
Failing that a wintec WIDE saddle (the cob saddle NOT the 500 version) can be a good fit on non-cobby horses - at their narrowest fitting (the red wide gullet) their shape suits many horses. It's a shame they're not used more often like that.
Yeah i had a L6 thorowgood when i bought him which fitted reasonably well but he was quite scrawny then and as he's filled out a lot round the whithers and across the back, it started lifting at the back and also as it was a gp so i couldn't get my knees in it for jumping. i sold it and bought an albion legend xc saddle but it's useless for flatwork as it doesn't have any knee rolls so you have to ride short or my leg isn't secure.
I think the cob throrowgood is a good idea to try next. My sister has one on her cob and it's much flater than the standard ones which might suit Prince now he hasn't actually got that much whither. Will suggest that to my saddler. he might have a spare gullet on him that we could put in my sisters one just to get an idea if its the right shape (she's in the extra wide so that def won't fit!!!).
My friend has a genesis for her arab stallion, says its the most comfortable saddle she has ever ridden in, the horse is going really well in it too.
I am going to have one fitted for my youngster when he gets old enough!!
Let us know what you think!!!
Well i tried it and it didn't go awfully well!! It looked like it fitted from the floor but once on board i felt in a really bad position. My pelvis was tilited forward which hurt my lower back, dropped my stirrups a few more holes which helped a bit but still felt tipped forwards. From the floor it looked completly level but it does have a very deep seat so i wonder if it just doesn't fit my bum. My sister thought i looked like i needed to sit further forward in it but it still felt weird.
Prince really moved well in it in walk and trot but he bucked once which was strange and then when i cantered it slipped forward and he pissed off with me and i couldn't stop, think it spooked him! To be fair the girth wasn't quite tight enough as we didn't have one small enough but i said no thanks to it after that.
