Hi all, I'm looking for a good allround saddle for my Thoroughbred and am thinking of buying a GFS Monarch VSJ. It looks like a good halfway house between a GP and Jump Saddle which appeals to me. Also the changeable gullet and flocking could be a good choice for my TB when he gains and looses weight over the course of the year.

I wondered if anyone could advise on whether this saddle works well for a Thoroughbred and if anyone is currently using one? I would be keen to know your experience with this saddle/brand?

What is the general opinion on GFS Saddles?

What are the 'best' saddles/brands for thoroughbreds? I'm definitely open to other brand/saddle suggestions too!

Thanks

I have a tb, I have never tried this saddle but I know it is very dependent on whether your tb has withers, long back etc. I have mine in an Ideal Deal which has a good seat but is good for a short backed horse. It is widened to a wide, this can only be adjusted by a saddle fitter. It is fitted with flayr so I can adjust as required. BB is very compact in his size. I can also use a Thorowgood T4 on him which is adjustable 😊

I’ve just got this saddle and really like it as an all round saddle. It feels well made to me, perhaps not as nice as my Jeffries but it’s a good saddle for the money.
However I have it on a IDxTB so unlikely to be anything like a full TB. The only way you’ll know for sure is to try it and see, preferably with a saddle fitter.
MyJeffries Falcon fitted my TB nicely. In fact it fitted a number of horses quite well.

I bought a VSJ monarch new in Covid year when supplies were short and had to wait 3 months for it.
It was a comfortable saddle with great support for the rider which is perfect as I break in young horses. However, I was disappointed with the leather and craftsmanship and felt my year older monarch was made in far better leather.
