Totally pointless post but I am sick of where I am currently (yard wise)

I love the yard and I love the people but I couldnt be more different. I love to ride my pony, that's why I have him and spend a fortune in money and time caring for him.

My problem is nobody rides. There is the yard owner who keeps her horses as pets, and only one other livery (who is a good friend) who rarely rides. She is worse since we moved to the new yard, and if she has an hour spare, would rather sit and drink coffee with the YO rather than ride. We have been on the yard since April and she has not hacked with me once.

Managed to persuade her to get a quick hack in after work tomorrow, so I posted on her wall what time ill be there, YO has commented that its dark by 6 so take a tourch (She was joking), so now friend has cancelled on me "just in case its dark before we get home!" AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH I hack most days so know how long the circular route takes, and not once has it gotten dark before I get back. So its off out on my own again.

That is literally the tip of the iceberg but just needed to get that off my chest!
Thanks

I am with you with this one as no one at my yard rides and its really depressing!

To ride with others I chuck mine in the truck and go to friends yards to ride with them. Is that a option for you?

You keep your horse to do what you want to do with it. Others keep their horses to do whatever they want to do with them, this may not include hacking with you.

I prefer to hack with my good friend, who I have been hacking with for a long time. Who has recently decided drinking coffee and bitching with the YO is more fun and is like a little lamb to whatever YO says. Like I said, its the tip of a very large iceberg and the final straw for me today.

Vickyjay, no its not an option unfortunatel. No transport and nobody to ride with nearby. At our old yard we rode together everyday, now I can honestly say I've not seen her on her horse once in the last few months. I wouldnt mind if she said she didnt want to ride with me, fair enough, but she lies and makes excuses and that hurts me.

I've just had a bad day and I am feeling fed up.

Someone posted an fb link to a page where you could find local riding buddies; can't remember the name exactly but that might be an option!

Not really sure of the answer then, just hack by yourself or try to move I guess.

I know that it's up too people if they want to ride their horse or leave it or whatever but it is still boring sometimes!

We dont have a school so hacking is the only option. I have tried everything to get her to ride, I've asked if there is a problem, offered help, told her we'd just walk (and always in a nice polite way) her answer is always the same and usually an excuse to do with her horse. I cannot stand a liar so would completely understand if she told me the truth, but saying her horse is lame, stiff etc when she isnt just annoys me. Like I said before it is the tip of the iceberg and there is a lot more too it.

Anyway, I was just ranting, thank you to the hacking buddies thing though, just been and liked it but there aren't many people on it yet. xx

Maybe they have read some of the posts on here where you have been less than complimentary about the YO and other livery. Dont get me wrong -you are far from bitchy but it wouldnt take much for them to recognise themselves and feel a bit hurt.

I have the opposite problem as I am on a small livery and the only horse everyone will ride out with is mine. I spend all my time trying to juggle who to go out with and not offending anyone. I occasionally manage to get a solo hack, and I must admit I really enjoy it.

Oh to be popular Ruftysdad ;-)

Maybe you should move somewhere with more people unless you can find a hacking buddy locally OP. Have you seen many other horses around near you? It might be a case of being brave and putting yourself out there if so, its funny as there are quite a lot of people who might avoid riding because they're not confident on their own (i was like that a bit with old horse) so someone might be thrilled to find a hacking partner! I have been quite lucky as I just have a rented field but I have about 3 people I can hack with now, although I am injured and no saddle haha.

very stressful, but maybe she's scared to hack out. have a chat with her in a third party kind of way, see how she's feeling. I hate riding out on my own, love the company. Will do it when I have to, and is great to get horse out by himself, no bad habits, but by gosh, it's boring. xx you need to find someone to hack with. if you put an ad in local tack shop, maybe you could meet someone at a certain point. hope you get sorted. xxxx

This is interesting, depending on what you do with your horses, most threads give the impression that the biggest culprits for not actually riding are those who practise Natural Horsemanship. I have to say that from personal experience that is not the case in our area.
We have hundreds of miles of off road riding, with a network of bridleways and packhorse routes. There is some roadwork, obviously, but the roads are quiet, no high hedges and visibility is good, making the roadwork, as safe as can be. Yet not many take advantage of this.
Most small farms around us are equestrian properties nowerdays, and there are some large livery yards within a few miles of one another. The horse owning population is very large in this area, yet, few ride out.
Natural Horsemanship is not very common around here, though like everywhere I suppose, gradually increasing, as is the number of barefoot horses. Conventional riders though are a rare sight hacking out, most prefer to spend their time in the school. I ride out every day either alone, or with my OH, we also play host to people in the NH groups we belong to and have people box their horses to us for some riding out days.
A lot of local riders seem to be into Dressage, but, very rarely venture out of the school, so apart from this their horses are stood in the stable or paddock. I spoke to a neighbour recently who told me they always boxed their horse to the local Dressage Trainer, not remarkable, until you find it is a distance of 1/4 mile. lol.

Its your choice if you want to hack. Just as much as its her choice not to hack. I used to love riding benson, xc, dressage, and a bit of schooling, but I hated hacking. Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe she has confidence issues? Maybe she just enjoys her horse to groom etc? Just because she owns a horse doesn't mean she HAS to ride it.

Who on earth decided that she MUST ride with you? I mostly hack out alone even though there are many people around I COULD hack with in the village. I don't get *****ty if people turn me down or don't want to go.

If you aren't happy, then find a new place to go.

I don't see the problem, just hack alone. I can see why she might be making up excuses not to ride if you are always going on about it. If she, or anyone else locally, can ride with you sometimes, then great, but don't moan if they can't.

You keep your horse to do what you want to do with it. Others keep their horses to do whatever they want to do with them, this may not include hacking with you.

Hardly constructive!

OP - you might need to move yards if it upsets you this much. Can you get out to any local shows regularly? It might help satisfy your need to ride with others and be great fun too. Perhaps if you spoke openly to your friend and say how much you miss your rides together it would be better than perhaps wading in with the "you never ride anymore" speech. See if you can get her to commit to once a month or fortnight - she might welcome a rocket up the arse of motivation. I know I enjoy a good shouting at by an instructor once in a while ;-)

Thanks for the plug casinosolo and Bobbly. :) And thanks SpottyFalula for the like - hopefully it will continue to grow. The page has only been active for 3 weeks and we have nearly 350 followers and nearly 100 separate locations mapped now. I really hope you find someone to ride with. :)

That's not a very nice thing to say about your "good friend" is it? Perhaps that is why she doesn't want to ride out with you.
