This is the 21st century, is it not?
How come I can buy a saddle in 17" narrow, narrow/medium, medium, medium/wide, wide, extra wide, extra extra wide, gigantic, how come I can buy a million different sized girths, a gazillion different sized rugs, but please somebody tell me why they still only sell bridles in Pony/Cob/Full??? And why I have to buy a bridle and then buy extra bits because the cheek pieces are too long, or the browband is too short.
I'm so mad.

Yes I bought a Jeffries 'pick and mix' one a couple of years ago but I don't think their bridles wear well at all and mine hasn't softened.
 
I have to mix and match between a cob and full bridle!

My tackshop are great and do this for me at no extra cost, although he promised me a show bridle in may last year....guess what.....it's still not turned up!
 
i thought it was just me that has this problem...i have to mix a pony and a cob brible either the nose band is too small for her fat nose or the cheek pieces are too long i then resort to a good old hole punch

thats why i am still buying bits and pieces with jefferies as they come in pieces that i could make a set without having to pay for numbers of different sized bridle... had basic cob head piece/noseband and pony cheeks nearly 15 years ago, had 2 horses between those time first one was short cob then later a current horse who is long full but narrow (throat lash etc too long so i used cob head piece/noseband and full cheeks... hey presto a bridle! but every where else it comes in sets which really annoys me. AND jefferies doesn't change the styles which is great.
 
i'm sure Sabre does bits and pieces too, i've got about 5 sabre bridles and all the components are slightly different lengths etc, so i can do a mix 'n' match to get things to fit. they're all so old i can't remember if they were just standard size, but i think so, and the leather is still lovely and soft.
 
I had to get my local saddler to make a bridle from all her bits and bobs for me - full size headpiece, extra full brow band and nose band, and cob cheek pieces. It didn't cost me any extra, and I've found the upside is that I'm no longer tempted to buy bridles in sales.
I also got a few random xf browbands from sabre and robinsons to make up spare bridles with

It is ridiculous though - there's definitely a market out there for mail order pick and mix bridles

Our tack shop does Dever as well as Sabre and Jeffries, and you can order each part as required.
Ours are a mix of Full and X Full and Warmblood fittings
 
Oh - that is very useful information - I didn't know that anyone offered mix-and-match bridle parts. I had a bridle specially made for my boy (Arab stally), who has a wide forehead but a very short head and tiny muzzle. But I will look out for Jeffries and Sabre in future...thanks!
 
I looked at Sabre & Jeffries but was feeling too poor to buy one. But I think that I might have to save up as I will have the same problem when I finally get him a new bridle, I need a full size browband & noseband but cob sized headpiece & cheeks.
