A long, long time ago( _OC_ is remembering from her past ) a young girl at the Yard I was at had always asked her parents for a pony for Christmas, and she asked, every year and every year she was given a china horse as her Christmas present.....untill the loan pony she had on loan came up for sale and her parents brought him. So Yep, me and the older girls dressed him it glitter and bows, and at home her parents gave her pressie that contained the china horse, except that year was a note that said 'Go to the Yard and you will find something to your advantage,Love Mum and Dadx' This is true and seeing her face when she relised the pony was her's on Christmas morning was lovely......have you ever been given a Gift Horse!

Not me personally, despite asking for a pony for every Xmas from about the age of 4 to about 12.

My ex's niece was taking riding lessons, fell in love with one pony (called Milky Way) and her parents bought him for her at Xmas, wrapping up a Milky Way bar for her to open on Xmas morning!

How sweet...no pun intended! LOL!

I got a horse on loan for christmas when I was 14. Horse was called Penny. I got a shiny penny attached to a piece of card (from a cereal packet!!) in a gift bag. It was brill!! I still have the penny on the card

I always wanted a pony and my birthday is 8 days before christmas.

On Christmas day my auntie took her pony who she's had since she was 12, put a ribbon round his neck and one round his belly and bought him to the back door and gave him to me with a certificate

He was 24 and a bugger but totally ace too

*Sniff!* What lovely stories! My first horse was a present from my uncle. He just said "I'm going to give you a horse" and I sort of gaped at him.
I don't think I actually believed it would happen until he took me to meet him and I got a bit emotional!!!

This is Tacuarí, my Gift Horse when I was 13
(My legs were so much slimmer too!!

PF was a freebie, but not really a GIFT... if you get my drift.

Yes... twice infact

My mum bought me a beautiful little chestnut mare that id fallen in love with in my teens. She was stunning and definitly one of the best horses ive ridden. Id had a lesson on her in the autumn and was completly smitten. I was told she'd been sold (she'd been taken off the yard) and was mortified. Infact, my mum had bought her for my 18th and she arrived back on the yard when i thought i was just going to ride my other horse. She'd got a massive bow round her neck and they'd painted her hooves with sparkly hoof polish and had her all clipped and tidied up

I cried!

My fiance bought me my current horse 3 years ago from my trainer. My own mare had finally been retired and i was faced with the prospect of nothing to ride. My trainer had her PSG school master back on the yard and i was, once again, crazy about him. He cunningly appeared in the stable next to my mare and hes a very people horse. I had a lesson on him without knowing much reason behind it other than to let me ride a school master. Next thing my fiance had put a deposit down and that was it!

He was an early birthday and christmas present but i did know about him since it was part of the agreement that i had him on trial to make sure we got along ok

Ive been very lucky

My grannie gave me a cheque for a horse for my 21st. And my godmother sold me the horse of hers which I really wanted. So I was a very happy bunny.

When I got Silver my parents let me know I could have a pony by giving me a china horse (well, Thelwell pony model!

) in a tiny buisness card box that had some grass and daisies in it for my 15th birthday

Best present EVER!

Yes! My beloved NF pony was a gift as in a permanent loan from my step aunt and he's the best present I could ever have got!

Yes

I went to try out an overwirght hano mare who was advertsed for loan or sale. I fell in love with her and we asked about having her on loan when the owners turned around and said that they actually wanted to sell her.
We couldn't afford her and I was gutted, next thing I knew my grandma was on the phone saying she'd pay for her as an early christmas present

6 years later I still have the old dragon

Haven't had one myself but i did buy my daughters pony 3 yrs ago for xmas. Tucked him up in his stable with a big bow and a gift card on his neck, i'd had him for a couple of mths previous so i put a little poem in the card that indicated he was hers for keeps........ needless to say at 6 yrs old she didn't really understand the poem but loved the bow round his neck - LOL

My spoilt brat daughter has had four horses as birthday presents (and still had the cheek to comment that I never buy her presents she can unwrap......try wrapping a horse is my usual answer!). 12.2hh at age 6, 14.1hh at age 12, 15.3hh at age 15 and 17hh at age 18! However, the real "gift horse" was Lizzie ("Scare McClare") who my old friend gave to us two and a half years ago as she was surplus to requirements (Harry has point-to-pointers). She's won races, and bred him a super foal, taken his daughters around cross-country courses......now she's our's......and now in foal!

On the 20th of January 2006, mum said to me "you need to pack an overnight bag, don't ask any questions just do it", Now at this point i was actually quite scared
blush.gif
At 6 the next morning she got me up (had put all my riding stuff in the boot of the car so i couldn't see it) and gave me some instructions to guide her, off we went up to Brittany (YES 6 hours away!!) and then we got there we knocked on the door (i still had no idea) and woman came out and said "I got him in but he's still quite dirty" I was shocked (as wasn't expecting another horse, but couldn't ride first one!), So I went around to the stables and there he was a silly head, looking at me from the end stable, and he whinied at me. But i didn't liek the look of him, it wasn't waht i was actually looking for!! But i got on him and the first trot i realised that actually he was right(I didn't even get to try him in the school!!)...and although i'm having a few problems with how i feel about my riding and how he's going, i know deep down it's still right!!

ETS: he was a christmas present really, because i dind't get anything that year!! he came home on the 28th (and it was snowing!!) we didn't actually know he and his friend were coming until they were an hour away!!

still waiting for my horse to come, 4 days (well 3 & about 55 minutes) and no sign of the father giving in. mum keeps saying "one day", she wants to buy me a 17ish hand horse and then maybe buy me little projects (well 15 ish hh cobs) to train up and sell on. i have been asking for a horse for xmas/birthdays since i was 4 or 5, so about 10 years now, and i just know that until i can earn the money to keep a horse i aint gonna get one! and i am university bound as im gonna be a vet! so no chance to get a horse for at least another 10-15 years if i ever get one.

August 22nd 1980, my grandfather bought me a pony called Whiskey to stop my father putting me into boarding school!!! (Plan worked as well) and last years birthday and Christmas present was Odie from my OH.....
one of the best ones though was a little TBx, who I was leading round the auction ring for a friend.... as I led him up the aisle to the ring, it suddenly hit me that I really liked the horse and didnt want to take him in the ring, searched frantically through the crowds for OH, who was no where to be seen..... went into ring and price was going up and up as my heart was sinking further and further down my boots, came out the ring and put horse back into pen and OH appeared and asked if he sold, to which I said yes.... he then took down his picture and details off the pen and said I suppose you'd better keep that then..... and then told me he was mine.... I cried!!!

my friend who lives in Oman, on the day she went back (the 30th/31st august) there was a stable barbeque and everyone was there, and we all crowded round to hear the speeches from everyone, and as the goodbye speech to ---- came up, she was given a card and a bag (with a passport in it), and as she opened her card it read something like we'll miss you --- but before you go back, we have something to give you. you are going to spend all your time in england with your new pony, BLUE!!

bless her little heart she ran though the huddle of all us girls and ran to her mum, hugged her and they were both in tears. it was such a nice day, and last sunday --- fed/groomed/tacked up/rode etc her pony for the first time ever and she'd owned him for 3 months!!
shocked.gif

everyone at the barbeque tried to persuade my dad to buy me a horse but he wouldnt budge, and in the end he went home cause he was bored. luckily we (me and all the stable girls) were camping at the yard that night cause i doubt he would have come back up to get me!

my turn next - no-one down the yard is allowed a horse til i get one!

My hubby-to-be bought me a horse as a wedding pressie! Harrison arrived with just a tatty bit of rope round his head but I couldn't wait to get on him, even though I had smart trousers on! Someone held him and I got on for a minute or two but when I went to get off I lifted my right leg over his head, meaning to slide to the ground off his shoulder but he raised his head right at the wrong minute and I had to lift my leg as high as the bloody moon and I popped a disc and could hardly stand. The wedding was 2 days away! When the horse arrived, he didn't have a name but I always said my dream would be to find either Harrison Ford or a horse in my Christmas stocking so when my nameless little horse arrived, I called him Harrison! He was a little bugger too!!!

My first pony was a gift...i thought i was having a lesson on him to see if we'd get on well enough for me to borrow for interschools showjumping and pony club...next thing my grandparents who were visiting from canada walked into the yard with my mam. dad who was already there with me told me to go and introduce my new pony to my grandparents...i cried i was so excited!! each new one after that has been a gift....they've always replaced the previous one! the current one is generally only mine when dad is not around as if he's there she ignores me...seemingly he serves better coarse mix, gives nicer apples and is generally just her favourite!!! and now she is going to be put in foal and as its her first one i'm giving it to mam as a present so all going to plan my gift horse will give a gift horse!!!

To the rest I love the fact that Gift horses can be had and given!

Not for Christmas but for my birthday! I had been sharing a horse and was about to take him on loan as my own. He got colic very suddenly and I lost him. I was devastated as you can imagine, but my OH dragged me out kicking and complaining and crying to look at buying a horse of my own. We eventually found my beautiful Buzzy and it just happened that the day we arranged to pick him up was my birthday!
smile.gif
So he was the best birthday pressie ever for me.

I got Harry for Xmas 6 years ago after having him on loan 6 months. I had ben asking for a horse for years and they always said no
I Had a massive box with just a picture of Harry at the bottem of it

Best Xmas ever - Xmas 2001

Naw, lovely stories!

I visited a 'friend' (dealer) by chance and saw this very lovely horse being exercised. Fell in love with him and when he was back in stable kept talking to him and stroking him.
Friend was going to recommend him to someone and I got all jealous!
Went home, and couldnt stop talking about this horse, even posted a pic on here and said how smitten I was.

Few days later hubby was on the phone and said something about money and the guys name and then said 'the horse is yours, arrange to pick him up'
blush.gif

So, I did and Herbie the plum, who I had only seen once and not ridden came home..

I just had to have him, had not found a horse who I knew was the one since Eric...

Yep!

My Christmas present this year is a pony (and I'm 20
blush.gif
) - I've been asking for a pony for Christmas since about the time I was 6yo! Never got one though until now
smile.gif

Sparks was a present too - infact the only horse I've ever bought is Oscar!

I got a pony for xmas when I was about 12. I already had a little pony who I was growing out of and my parents agreed I could have another. Although she was my xmas pressie it wasn't a suprise on xmas day or anything as I chose her myself.
