Gift ideas please for a new rider!

After 20 years out the saddle, my mother is returning to riding and I'm so excited! She wants to spend a few months having lessons at a local riding school and then if she is enjoying herself next year she will look to get her own again. Am so thrilled for her!

It's her birthday this month and I'm after some gift ideas. I've already got her some lovely smart leather gloves, but I wondered what else a new rider might need/appreciate? It's hard to remember!

She will wear one of my hats and my breeches too. And she has some suitable boots and chaps to get her going without spending too much initially. I'm sure she'll soon been buying herself Konigs and making me super jealous though!

It seem like she will have all the kit that she needs for the moment. I don't know where you are but when I was younger we somtimes used to go for rides in Windsor Great Park which were organised by a local stables. Is there something like that near you?

I've just done the same as your mum, I splashed out on new boots, half chaps, hat, body protector (might be a nice idea as older bones don't bounce as easily as younger ones), else, vouchers for the local riding establishment (I'm sure they could organise a prepayment card with you), new whip, riding tops (XC shirts, polo tops etc. to wear above jods), comfy underwear for riding in, nice riding coat for the coming winter (something I'm still looking out for), Nice hi vis gear etc.

Glad to help. My new body protector arrived today, after a lot of searching I picked the WolfWear one on equestrian clearance as I needed an extra large - its nice for the money (I couldn't get the size I needed in any make cheaper than on there - they aren't always the cheapest, but for that seemed to be so)and might be worth a look for you - nice size chart there too.

The riding is just fabulous, I am soo excited and absolutely thrilled with it. I can't wait to go each time and I'm like a small child again with the excitement of each visit to the riding stables.
