Gifts for a Novice

I'm looking for a gift idea for an adult novice's birthday. She currently gets lessons in an indoor school every week. I've only got a budget for £20.
Would nice riding gloves be a good plan? And if so which ones?
I'm really REALLY fussy about my own gloves.

Personally I'd consider getting them a really good informative book. With pictures, guides and lots of how-to's.
