Love them or hate them?
Chestnut horses/ponies that is

I never gave them much thought. I am a piabold addict.
A friend came to see our rescues the other day and commented on how many chestnuts we have.
I never realised how many chestnuts we had taken in with 'Behavioural problems'
I say Ginger Ningers as we have two real Ginger poinies that live up to the red head comments. Lovely ponies all the same.

My husband had a chestnut ID x and he was a star sadly lost to colic age 26. I now have a chestnut Hanoverian who is a real character. He would not harm a fly but pushes his luck with Mum til she gets annoyed and tells him off. Wouldn't be without him though.

I had a chestnut mare when I was a teenager and she was amazing.

I then had a chestnut gelding to hunt for the last 4 years who was also brilliant although had a few "issues" as it were.

Absolutely love them!!

This mare and the last one were ginger, well the last one had ginger spots/chestnut roan. Both horses of charachter, but the current one has manners to die for. They were/are the tartiest mares I have ever met mind you

I must admit i am a bit of a convert. It just made me wonder as we have taken in so many and my friends comment.
I had to turn away two - not rely needing us and we do not have the funds - they were chestnut.
I love all our chestnuts from the ex-racehorse to the old fogey pony.
Must admit i would not have gone for one years ago. Just were not my colour.
We have the best ever chestnut pony.

wouldnt have chosen one after my childhood chestnut arab mare put me off, but now i have ginger jack the TB, and i love him soooooooooooooooooooooooo much, and he is glowing like a flame in the sun today, he looks gorgeous

I have three chestnuts; my liver chestnut mare who definately lives up to her chestnut mare reputation! My gelding who is a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, and my young mare who is bright orange and doesn't live up the chestnut mare reputation! I didn't go looking for chestnuts though, I didn't even know what colour they were when I went to look at them! And the liver chestnut mare had a foal last year who was born the same colour as mum but is now going grey and is turning very unusual shades of chestnut along the way!

I have a chesnut HW cob who is lovely, the safest, nicest chap, without being brain dead and a chesnut Hanoverian youngest with the nicest temperament (no bucking, no rearing, no bolting, no napping!).

Must love them, I had a chesnut mare 25 years ago and now have a chesnut gelding. Even had a red setter at one time and a ginger boyfriend - many years ago!!

We had four chestnut broodmares at one time and each one of them could be really 'bi**hy, especially with a foal at foot. If they didn't want to do something, then that was it, no amount of persuasion would change their minds. They were a bit quick with their teeth and feet sometimes, as well.

In all, we had fifteen mares, and none of the other colours gave us nearly as much hassle. The loveliest of them all was a Button Bright mare who had a club foot (bred to show), she was liver chestnut and had the kindest temperament ever. She was even happy to foal down right in front of us, on a warm, sunny afternoon.

In my experience the more 'orange' they are the worse they can be. But, then, perhaps they can sense that I'm biased and I expect the worst before giving them the benefit of the doubt!!!???

Love them.

Have one, used to ride for a lady with two... never ridden a horrid one- but have met one but she was an arab aswell so didnt have much hope. (not an arab fan- dont want to offend anyone so sorry! )

Love them!
Funnily enough my fabulous filly I bred last year is called Ginger Ninja all the time, even though she is far too much of a princess to pull any ninja moves.
She's actually the only chestnut one we have at the moment out of 14 but I do like a redhead
