I'm not sure how much I can type because my arms ache from just putting his studs in!!!
blush.gif

He travelled really well but we arrived a bit late because we followed a tractor on the A361 for 6 miles!!!!!!!! The pig driver passed by 4 laybys and had about a half a mile of traffic behind him but do you think he would pull in? I was like
mad.gif

Anyway, I ran off to get my number and walk the xc course leaving mum to look after Zeb. I felt the course was tiny and was glad Boo wasn't doing it because there just wasn't enough to make him back off but for Zeb it was fine (for a first outing together
wink.gif
)

Got back to the trailer and off loaded him, tacked him up and climbed aboard and off to dressage. All I can say is, the handbrake was well and truly ON!!! OMG, I did think he might wake up a bit at an event but hell no, he was just as bad as he is at home
frown.gif
He was such hard work but looking back at the video, he is consistent, if a little slow in trot, his upward transitions are beautiful and he does maintain a fab rhythm, his test came out at 36.5 so not as bad as i'd thought. I came out of the arena and said to mum, "they're going to slate me!"
blush.gif

Back to the trailer for a change of tack, a swift drink and banana, sauntered over to the showjumping which was just in front of the trailer and learnt the course. Jumped on and went to warm up. Thank goodness it's on all weather surface now, even the warm up, it had rained hard over night so I can imagine what the warm up could have been like. Warmed up (if you can call it that
smirk.gif
) went in and lolloped around, did the first 3 fine but came around the corner to the 4th dissunited and rather ran into it so had it down then he started to back off the brightly coloured fence 5, propped nearly stopped at which point I took my hand off the reins to give him a hard clout with my whip but dropped the right side of my rein, and he took off over the fence with me hanging on to one side of him, how embarassing was that
blush.gif
got him back together and finished the course nicely, oh, I did have fence 5 down, surprise surprise
smirk.gif
So, so far I have managed to do the crappest job on him by far, and am feeling quite down about my ability as a rider. He's won at this level for christ sake, how come I do such a sh1t job???
confused.gif

Anyway, no time to dwell just yet, here comes the fun part, right? Mmm, not sure what he thinks but I think it's the fun part! In the start box, count down 5,4,3,2,1 GOOOOOOOOOO...........................GO, handbrake off? No, handbrake on!!! Trundled up to the first fence, spooking all the way, scrambled over it and then I lost it, I turned my whip upside down (something I NEVER EVER do
frown.gif
) gave him 2 hard ones over the arse and get 3rd gear!! Yippee.
smile.gif

From then on I worked my ass off, i've NEVER had to sit 15 strides before a fence and drive before but with him, you need to work ALL the way round. By half way round the course I nearly gave up, I didn't know if I had the strength or breath in me to keep going
blush.gif
But the further we got the more he began to let off his handbrake. The fences are a piece of pi55 for him, SOOOOOOOOOO easy, it's the galloping inbetween he finds hard
shocked.gif
we had one sticky moment at fence 12 (I think) it was a skinny roll top, through the horse shoe then another skinny roll top and bu99er me if the little s0d decided he didn't like the arch way!!! anyway, got him through it and completed the course.
grin.gif

So, what do I REALLY think? I think he was a real star, he was an angel at the event, he didn't do anything naughty he was just Zeb. He made my riding look like I was in the pony club and I'm quite
blush.gif
about it but when you watch the video it's not soooooooo bad
smirk.gif
I'll try and get the video uploaded at some point but hubby has to do it on his pc and he doesn't "do" horses, so it could be a while.

We had 10 time faults on the xc so finished on a score of 55.5 or something like that. Don't know where it left me but probably the lower half of the table. But hey, it's another run under my belt
smile.gif

**whispers** Come back soon Boo, I miss you

Oh, I saw HH and CCJ, I think HH was a bit shocked at how big Zeb actually was!
wink.gif

Thanks for reading

Just finished my glass of wine so can't share it with ya all

That did make me chuckle! He sounds like very hard work, Liberty is like that quite often. Maybe you need to invest in a bigger pair of spurs?!

[/ QUOTE ]

When we bought him, the girl said to me "you'll need these" handing me a pair of impulse spurs, I asked why them and she said normal spurs rub him raw, you can imagine that now can't you
blush.gif
I did take big spurs and i'm defo going to put them on for the dressage next time, I just didn't have time today!

Sounds like you had a very 'entertaining' outing
tongue.gif
!!

Well done for perservering
smile.gif
...most horses want to fly out of the start box, but I suppose he's not 'most'??!!! Maybe next time (if there is one
confused.gif
?) he'll 'get it' and tow you around?!

Think you deserve another bottle of wine to replace all those spent calories!
wink.gif
smile.gif

Well done
smile.gif

I'm sorry I missed you L! It sounds very entertaining! I was on the radio and checking the timings at the cross country start. I managed to see CCJ but I think she had an eventful dressage? I didn't see HH - sorry HH. We had 273 cross country starters today so it was pretty busy! I think it was about 230 yesterday.

If it's any consolation I think it's as much hard work just trying to hold my two on the XC, probably at least equal in the calorie burning stakes! Lots of walk to canter transitions and oats??? Jolly well done though!

I think I looked straight at you actually Haniki! I did wonder if it was you. I was on the big chestnut and had blue/green silk with blue/green stars number 572.
wink.gif

Aww bless him, i think he sounds lovely!!
Great report though Lou, glad you had a good time!!

Can't wait for your next report with Boo!!
grin.gif

Oh Haniki I didn't realise you were there!
Yes, the report above tells about C's dressage escapades, her XC was pretty eventful too...
grin.gif

I missed Wizoz competing which was sad, but at least both of them finished in one piece.. even if she was puffed and CCJ was laughing.....

Ha ha, yep, I know that one too! Boo and Zeb couldn't be any more opposite if they tried!! Now if I could pinch a bit from both, I'd have 2 perfect horses
grin.gif
tongue.gif

What a great report, Lou ! And great result for your first run with Zeb.
Made me giggle just thinking that physically you probably now feel like you've just been through an advanced xc round
tongue.gif

Zeb sounds an "armful' and the kind the French call a "diesel horse"
grin.gif

Will have a glass of wine on you all the way from DC, USA

Ah, I do remember you now Lou. I looked up your horse's breeding because I thought he was nice. I see he's Primitive Rising same as Tim Cheffings nice grey horse - Primitive Knight.

He's stunningly gorgeous really, his photo's from the xc were amazing, I want to buy one of us going through the water but my face has that agony expression on it
smirk.gif
Yes, he has very good breeding, Ann Voss bred him and he is out of Red firemountain by Primitive rising.

Did you spent ages in photo tent peeeing yourself at your images?????????? cos if so i was looking at mine and couldn't work mouse!!!

He hee, thanks Kat, believe me, I kept wishing the silly bu55er hadn't ripped off his shoe 2 weeks ago
smirk.gif
But I do like Zeb, i'm now making it my mission to get him to enjoy life, find the switches and turn them to on, it's going to be fun

Ooh she used to live just down the road from me!! She bred some fabulous horses!
grin.gif

Zeb was a show horse for the first 6 years and I think that's part of the reason why he's so switched off. But yes, she did breed some stunning horses. Zeb won nearly everything he was entered in, he did county level, I believe.
