I just want to know if its just me?? Theres a girl at our yard alot younger than me i share a stable block with her, shes constantly using my stable and then lets her horse poo in it, leaves straw all over and suspect she is pinching my feed.

I cant move stable blocks as theres no space on the yard, i used to be quite friendly with her but she started asking me to turn her horses out in the winter all the time as she doesnt drive and wanting lifts up which i stupidly did, but now she only messages me when she want something.

Ive tried looking into other yards but theres no spaces locally that i can afford as i have 2, also my mare wont go out alone so i need her to ride with as there is only one other girl to ride with.

Im just fed up of her but dont want to get kicked off the yard for causing trouble but feel like im ready to explode!!

Tell her she is taking the piss and to stop using your stable. Get your mare hacking out alone, it CAN be done. Keep your stuff locked away and lock your feed bins. Problem solved.

I politely messaged her last night and said to not leave poo in my stable, am hopefully getting metal locking feed bins.

Everyone else inc livery yard owner seems to stick up for her, we on a working farm so theres not many rules ie keeping the floor swept etc. Shes started on the other girl now getting lifts and doing nets etc.

Im not the most confident or balanced rider and we all went for a hack and she just tore off on her tb as apparently its cos his stride is longer than mine and other girls cob x

Exactly, especially if she's a young kid, they often don't realise they are taking the pee (or they do but will continue until they are told otherwise!).

As for lifts and favours, just say you're not driving in her direction and you don't have time to turn out for her (suggest she pays somebody to do it).

Shes always claiming poverty, she pays her livery late. Got the farrier to do her horses feet for free she has everyone twisted round her bloody finger.

Im trying to take the moral high ground and not rise but some days i could scream. She let her laminitic mare go without vet attention cause she couldnt afford the call out it really annoys me.

Im sure we have ALL had this girl on our livery yards at some time or another .. they seem to be a certain type and there is no moral high ground. Get down and dirty and let rip at her, its the only way they learn or listen!

Personally I would just lock up your stuff, and say nothing to anyone about it. lock your stable when not in use if you can and lock away your feed.

Eventually she will work through the yard and start annoying everything and everyone.

to quote Napoleon, "Never Interfere With an Enemy While He’s in the Process of Destroying Himself"

just keep to yourself, and let others learn the hard way, they'll soon stop sticking up for her. By saying anything you'll be branded as the troublemaker and she will use it against you to try get people on her side.

I agree! Also like the mouse trap idea!

Don't just say not to leave poo in your stable, say she shouldn't be using it in the first place and yes I would padlock it too I think, and my feed and everything I owned.

Agree I'd padlock the stable and put my feed in there too, so she'd have to climb over if she is going to steal it!!

It sounds like you want to stay on good terms with her as you have no one else to ride with, so you either need to do this or ask her politely not to use the stable!! I assume that the lift thing has benefitted you both, as you can pick her up so you can ride together, so maybe just ask her for a bit of money towards your petrol for any further lifts.

I would take her aside and say you think someone has been stealing your feed. Ask her if she has any ideas who it could be. If you want to be more subtle say the feed has been going down really quickly so you're going to start measuring it because you don't want to be over feeding your horses, do you? If that doesn't stop the pilfering ( and it normally does - I know from experience), then lock the bins. Use a good rope or chain and a padlock if the bins are not lockable. As for the stable, just ask her not to use it! If she does, then lock that too.

The lifts were for her benefit so she could turn her horses out, thankfully shes latched onto another person who ends up paying taxis as she tags along!!

I want to keep the peace mainly as i need to share the block as its away on its own, the yard is brill for my sweet itch mare as im on a hill so im loathe to leave it !! If someone leaves the yard and i can have 2 stables then i wont hestitate to move stables away from her!!

that's a really good idea!! can tell you're a yard owner!!

I think were are just so.... English or southern or both. By now I would have blown and put the poo somewhere very inconvenient for her, like in her wellies.
But I agree perhaps crafty is best. And learn to say no, people eventually stop asking.

Perfect suggestion - I've been there too, but I was suspicious of multiple culprits, so rather than going in guns blazing, I put a note on top of the feed (inside the bin) and saying "I know you you are, STOP!!" and a well placed nut on top to see if anyone had gone in it, and it stopped the thieving. ;)

As for sweeping the feed, YO once told me off for the feed being everywhere - it wasn't even mine !! Her mess had migrated over and so I started sweeping it back over on principle I couldn't keep tidying up after her. This battle is ongoing, but I'm leaving at the end of this week. :)
