girlfriend wont learn to ride?

I am sure that your girlfriend not wanting to ride should not become a problem in your relationship as that is not why you want to be together.
I am not in the least bothered that my husband is not interested in riding or has no great contact with my horse. My horse side of my life is mine and I enjoy that time as my time.

There are lots of things that we do together and lots that we don't...my husband likes mountain biking and is very keen for me to get a mountain bike too..but it does not interest me, I am a road cycling lass and that is that. He works on steam trains and whilst I share his passion for steam trains, shovelling coal all day is not something on the top of my list to do!
I would learn to accept it, one day she may want to give it a go but forcing someone to do it because they feel they should is the wrong reason anyway.

We spooked him, I fear. Our responses overfaced the poor chap, and he ran out, ditching his jockey as he fled past the judge's tent :(

Jockey was unhurt, but got a bit muddy due to how much rain there has been. OP still galloping homewards, thankfully there is no traffic along that route, and his jockey is following in their car. They have called ahead and made sure that his paddock gate is open for him...

:D

(Still unreasonable though.)

If you were actually serious then you are being unreasonable! i would love my boyfriend to ride but he isnt intersested and i wouldnt force him or split with him because of it!

Obviously she isnt the girl for you. sorry x

Then allow me to reiterate:

YABU and there are some serious Red Flags attached to your attitude towards what a relationship should be. Stop being so controlling! Let's look at things from your partner's point of view, shall we?

"Dear Forum, my partner of twelve months has a hobby that he loves but that holds no interest for me at all. I have no problem with us enjoying different social activities - I thought that was healthy? But now he says he will dump me unless I take part in his hobby! This is all so unexpected, what should I do?"

Forum Responses:
"Eh?"
"What hobby is it?" (Horse riding) "That's dangerous and really expensive - why does't he quit and take you on a nice holiday or buy you both a house?"
"Tell him to respect your decision, just as you have respected his!"
"LTB!"
"Sign him up with a hobby of your choosing that he dislikes. Then you will be equal!"

You see, the thing about relationships is that they tend to involve individuals. The nature of being an individual is that you are not a carbon copy of someone else. You have your own views, interests, dislikes, DNA, and you are unlikely to want to be remoulded to suit someone else.

By the way, wanting to remould someone else to suit your own ends? That reallly isn't on - it is immature, controlling, and a serious Red Flag in any relationship. The plot of "My Fair Lady" has some serious issues...and "National Velvet" is actually very dark stuff indeed...

HTH, OP.

OK-OP I'm going to take you seriously and presume that you are not a troll. You don't say how old you are, I would imagine you are quite young. A year is not a long time as far as relationships are concerned, if this is worrying you now what's it going to be like in another year or two? I'm sure a lot of people work it out but horses are such a lifestyle choice that I can see a non-horsey partner could easily have problems with the time and cost involved. I don't think I could cope with a totally non-horsey partner, so I can see where you're coming from. Now,of course I'll find out that you actually do live under a bridge!

Look, I've re read the first post and never once does the OP mention HORSE. The word riding is however repeated lots of times. So make of that what you wish but there are lots of things aside from horses that can be ridden; bikes, bullocks, camels, elephants, oh, and donkeys. Whew, avoided being very rude there ;)

Lol. Maybe should be phrased.
OP ;
Dear Forum. I cant get my leg over..what should I do about it?
Reply. Get a bigger mounting block and do some stretching exercises to help your flexibility.
OP; No, I mean I can't get my leg over!
Yeah, yeah, we heard you. Get a bigger mounting block and practice stretching :D :D ; )

I have been riding near enough all my life I met my girlfriend about a year ago and she has never ridden and she is refusing to learn, does anyone else have a partner who doesn't want to ride ? does it annoy you as much as it does m that she wont even give it a go? or am I being unreasonable? how can I convince her to learn? or should o leave her and find someone who rides? is it weird I want a girlfriend who rides?

It sounds very much to me that you have been unable to present her with a suitable mount. Perhaps she should look elsewhere ;)
