Another Dog Attack
A 10-year-old girl is to undergo surgery after being bitten in the face by a Staffordshire bull terrier.
The child suffered a 6cm wide and one-inch deep cut to her cheek at a North Yorkshire army base.
She will have an operation at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
A 21-year-old woman, believed to be the animal's owner, was arrested but released on police bail.
She was held on suspicion of having a dog which was dangerously out of control in a public place.
The attack happened at the Alanbrooke Barracks, which are just a few miles from Thirsk.
Sergeant Ben Frank, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "The parents of the girl are understandably extremely upset.
"It's very distressing for all concerned.
"But we must realise that owners of dogs have a clear responsibility to make sure they're under control."
The dog, who attacked the girl outside her home, has been destroyed.
Police do not believe its owners are related to the victim's family.
Both families live on the base.
