Contraceptive injection is amazing.
I used to have loads of problems with passing out, pain, really heavy etc. I went on the injection at 14 following doctors advice as couldnt get on with the pill......never looked back 10 years on! I cant even remember what periods are like!! Although if thats not for you, tampons are good as cause less rubbing than pads....but i used to use both just to be sure! Good idea re keeping a supply in horses first aid box.
 
I would suggest you try a mooncup. They are fab and I just wish I'd be told about them years ago. You can bung one in when you are due on and have no worries about your period arriving at an inopportune moment. I only empty mine twice a day and forget about it the rest of the time. No leaks etc and it's so much better for the environment and works out much cheaper in the long run.
 
I still ride, I put a lady rocket in just before I go down and it usually lasts the whole duration im at the yard, and dont forget a parecetemol for cramp! I also wear dark pants to make sure no dribbles show ;). Although I had the worst experience ever a few weeks ago, I only had beige jods left, and I was rushing because I had a jumping lesson with my instructor so I forgot to change my rocket!! :O:O. Anyway I was doing my lesson and I went over a jump when my instructor said 'hanna do you have something on your pants?' I had a look and I had came through BIG TIME, nice big patch and it had went on to my cream saddle saver. My MALE instructor, best friend (was watching) and her boyfriend were in stiches laughing at me, I ended up borrowing a tampon from the farmers wife and carrying on with my lesson. So Bad :o
 
I've had the contraceptive rod thing for the last 4 years and dont ever get a period on it! Its great. No having to remember to take a pill or anything. Just get it changed ever 3yrs.

Yes, and one has to ask....is a forum, accessible to the world..the best place to ASK??

I've mentioned this elsewhere today, it seriously worries me the sorts of things people ask....yeah, someone will moan about it i'm sure....but I'd be mortified if my daughter (if I had one) felt she had to go asking complete strangers such questions....!

No, I'm not a prude, just worried how people leave themselves so open to dubious questions and other such things.....
 
Ellie - from your pony I take it you are young, so prob still only using pads? Anyway, whatever you use, take lots, use a pad for a *just in case* and take nappy bags with you in case you need to dash into the tent to clean up - baby wipes are good for that too....oh and use nighttime pads with wings.

You teenagers have no idea how lucky you are with new technology, 20 years ago when I started the only pads around were about 3 inches thick LOL!

I was just so worried, for one not being able to have a shower on the sunday (eeek!) and just in case it was set to be very very warm and stuffy :o

nah I'm 30 and this thread has made me feel much better so I bet it's helping an insecure teen! I've been having a giggle at the stories as we all have them.


OP - the advice has been great - it's happened to us all but just be prepared if you can :D
 
I don't think the OP is too young to be taking about periods and contraception!

I still ride, I just make sure I double up the protection! I have come on while riding at a show though, which was a bit of a nightmare! Also out hacking...poor saddle
