New saddles means new girths!

Looking at both shorter types for dressage and jump saddles, but also longer girths too so any suggestions would be greatly received! Equally please let us know ones to steer clear of as well recommendations!

Thanks in advance :)

I have a synthetic dressage girths from Thorowgood and Dever. Both were reasonably priced and very easy to clean. Most importantly, they are comfortable for my horse.

wintec elastic for dressage girths. very hard wearing and easy to clean. Or a shires anti chafe dressage girth, also hard wearing and a nice quality.

Love my thorowgood synthetic girth. Looks smart and so easy to clean, just wipe with a damp cloth, and so spongy and well shaped for comfort.

I like thorowgood too. Or Aerborn. Personally I prefer double elastic as you can tighten the girth more equally than from one fixed side. The only one to probably avoid is the Aerborn humane or similar system, They are not permitted in many competitions because there is in effect only one girth strap and if it breaks you have no back up or second strap. But there are horses who can only use those types of girth - so they do have a purpose.

The Hy comfort waffle girths are good and accepted by many sensitive horses.

However it does depend upon the horse's shape and where their girthgroove is, and what works for one will not work for another. For example I've used Stubben cord girths for many years on a variety of horses who have loved them the current pony can't stand them - he likes either a Balding or a very particular type of ergonomic girth. Did the saddler who fitted the new saddles give you any pointers to the type of girth that may work? Without seeing IRL how the saddle sits on the horse it's difficult to give meaningful suggestions.

I have used the professionals choice neoprene girths in the past with success for horses that needed a straight long girth, they give additional stability to the saddle so you don't need to overtighten.

My horses seemed OK with the plastic waffle type dressage girths but noticeably improved when I swapped to a leather girth that they couldn't feel the buckles through, and I have observed similar with other horses too. On that basis I won't choose those soft floppy types of short girth in the future. I have mine in fairfax & prolites now but they don't suit every horse.

I have a lovely soft leather girth from English bridles. It was soft from day 1 and my girl seems happy in it. It has elastic both ends. They do long and short girths
