Hi there

Can somebody advise on girth for an 11.2 pony with a forward girth groove. Preferably one that is non elastic by the buckle ends

Long girth or short girth? Do you know what length? These little ponies are tricky, personally I don't tend to use particularly shaped girthed but many of those are too fat for smaller ponies.

The right saddle should have the right girth straps that allow you to angle the girth towards the girth groove, in my opinion. Some other fitters think something like a point strap is the work of the devil, but it's the right tool for a very forward girth groove, you just have to have a flat, stable saddle fit. Yes, over stretchy elastic is an issue, cheap elasticated girths are best avoided, and often you need tripled elastic to avoid that (though good quality doubled is good). It should be hard to stretch it by hand.

I'd generally recommend a Dabbs waffle with a slight anatomical shape, or a Stubben cord girth but both would probably be a bit wide, worth looking at though, as even though they're not (very) forward curved they can work well. I can't think of a thin forward curved girth that is thin enough and/or doesn't place too much pressure on the back edge (Prolite etc). Can your fitter recommend something? Always the best place to start.
