girth sores

my chestnut mare gets really bad girth sores. ive used creams, spreys and gel's. can anyone reccomend anything? i cant ride her atm because of this. i also ride her in a girth guard as its so bad.

What sort of girth are you using? Mine gets a bit sore with those Cottage Craft type material/cotton girths, especially if I don't wash them after every use. He will only tolerate Wintec or Thorowgood neoprene type girths, or a proper leather girth.

Skin hardner gel once the soares have healed full, which could take over a month and then using a good girth with a sheepskin girth cover, however you'll need a few, making sure you put a clean one on everytime you ride, also washing down/cool hosing and drying of the area even the horse has not broken into a sweat.

You might need the vet to make sure they are not infected otherwise you'll be waiting forever you might need antibiotic cream or something

Ditto the sheepskin, and you need a few they take AGES to dry
