If I didn't have mine's passport I wouldn't have believed he was 5 when I bought him - he was so young mentally. Got tired incredibly quickly, was a demon with other horses in the field and generally had a very immature way about him. He's grown mentally this year but still very young and definitely not a grown up.
 
I would say Winnie has matured mentally but he's still what I'd consider pretty young. He's on individual turn out because he's such a monkey but he's very insecure. He has to be first in from the field/out of his stable/box or off the walker!
His maturity when being ridden has really grown though! His attitude is great, he takes things on and he learns quickly. His concentration span is quite low so we warm up long and low for a while then have 20 minutes of productive schooling and then work him back down again. Any longer and its not worth it he switches off. Small spurts of productive work is best.

Its interesting hearing all your stories and the similarities in the breed! I love them though.. maybe slightly biased but theres something special about them and they have that 'presence' so many others don't.

He's off to his first hunt on sunday - so I may totally change my tune on monday!!

This is funny as this sounds just like my KWPN. The only thing is, he was brought as a 3 year old at 16.1hh on tippy toes and he is now possibly 16.2hh on tippy toes at 6! His physical statue hasn't really changed, but mentally he did all those things especially first to do everything and individual turnout! I hope he'll have a late spurt as I could do with him an inch taller!

How old is he now? I reckons winnies grown mostly in the 18months. Obviously he's filled out a lot and muscled up and putting TO on this winter its def a bit on the small side! I'm sure it was fine last year!

Less than a year later shes now 16.3 in size 6.6 rugs and is slowly starting to fill out.. hoping she stops growing though im only 5ft 4 so not tall her dad was 17.3 and her mum 15.3 so hoping for a happy medium..

Colour size and shape all seem to be changing only thing which hasnt is her exceptional attitude to work and willingness to try.
 
There are 2 x 3year olds at work which are probably only 15hh (they are smaller than my connie x 3 year old who is 15.1hh).
They look pretty mature for their age I.e their legs in proportion with their body so I was thinking they will only make around 15.2hh when the owner thinks they will be 16hh+. This thread is making me think maybe she is right....

Mine is rising 7 so not sure he's got much left in him!

Well this is exactly like mine, he looked all grown when I got him at 3, and nothing has changed! They don't all grow to be huge, the 'relatives' of mine are mostly 16.1/16.2

Fortunately, yes, i have big stables!! Just to make it more ridiculous, she is out of a 16.2 mare, by a 15.2 stallion. As for mentally, i would say she is very immature, she is improving and growing up, but slowly, i think she will take quite a lot of time, but thats fine, she can have as long as she needs. The 4yr old however is a lot more mentally mature, he is level headed and generally very sensible about life.
 
Mine was only 14.3hh as a rising 3 year old! Now 15.3hh as a 5 year old and has really filled out but have a feeling there is more to come! I think he will make 16hh. He is long legged, long backed, long necked! Looks much bigger then my friends 15.2hh connie x.
 
I'd be intersted ito know if those who huge horses have actually measured them with a proper stick?! I've found most people seriously over estimate height, esp if the horse has a fairly high head carraige.

I have a real warmblood (with no capital letters) 2yr old: ID x TB. He's currently 16hh (measured) although looks and feels (to lead) much bigger as he's got a really high head carraige. Sadly looks like he's got a lot of growing to do as he looks like a gangly weed but I REALLY hope he doesn't go over 17hh. That's just a little too big for trailers etc.

We bought a 4yo Dutch warmblood in 2011 - about 16.1, but immature physically and mentally and his teeth looked about 2! (he came from breeders who we know and have 2 others from, so 100% he is who he says on passport!). Now he is 5, has grown a couple of inches in height, but is only just starting to mature mentally (and his teeth are still tiny!) We have had to take everything really, really slowly - he's done a few dressage and aff sj comps this summer - and he's now going to have the winter off. Am hoping he'll emerge a grown up when we get going again in the spring. He's a very big boned old fashioned looking horse (actually looks rather CB like), not the sharpest tool in the box, and we think (hope!) he's just going to take ages to
mature into his big frame.
 
Sadly Kallibear, yes, i have measured all mine with a proper stick and the horse stood on a level concrete surface, and the horses are not shod, very depressing!!
