After a really bad fall last week my confidence is feeling a little fragile. I was fine at first because I didn't realise how badly injured I was but I'm now being referred to a specialist for CT scans because the hospital think I may have a fractured eye socket.

I was really jittery riding tonight which is going to be a viscious circle if I don't sort it out straight away. Normally if she spooked at the wind I'd just make her canter to get it out of her system but I was all nervy and grabby which wasn't helping at all. I don't want to sell her, she's supposed to be my horse of a lifetime, but I've really shaken myself.

Give yourself a chance! Not good weather for riding, so doing more than sitting on and getting off again is probably not a good idea, plus, and I hate to sound like my Mother, but should you be riding if suspected eye issue? Don't want to make it worse. You got back on today, so now give yourself a rest and take it easy. Hugs, C.x

Take it eay till you know wahts wrongh, you don't want to make the injury worst. In the mean time how about doing some ground work and maybe lunge before you get on?

When it happened to me i couldnt ride for a little while, and watching other people ride my girl seemed to help. She isnt dangerous, and never put a foot wrong with them. So eventually when i could get on i didnt have it stuck in my mind as much. It just took time, and constantly reminding myself to relax.

Remember to enjoy yourself, thats why you have her. Dont push yourself too far either, as it can make you feel worse.

Nothing wrong wit plodding around!

ouchy, poor you

I agree with MrsMozart, give yourself a break - can you lunge D instead if she needs the work? Get the eye sorted, then work on the confidence, you'll soon be feeling better about it all - there will not be any reason for you to sell her you silly billy, she is still the same horse - your horse of a lifetime, you're just feeling a bit fragile. hugs xx

I think, physchologically, you did the right thing by getting back on. OK, maybe not the most sensible for your injury though!

Do what you can until you get your eye sorted and then when you start riding again do what you feel comfortable to do and gradually you'll get your confidence back in your own time.

You could set a goal and then the steps towards it which may help, but you sound just a little shaken, which is your body's natural response as you hurt yourself next week. Your body is looking after you and responding by giving you extra adrenalin as it thinks you maybe doing something that's going to hurt it again. But we know you're not and you'll be fine very soon!

Lucinda Green's favourite saying is "If in doubt, Kick on!" and it's one of my faves too!

I feel for you! I'm feeling the same atm, haven't falled off ( huggies) but my horse bolted off down the road on Sunday when a cyclist came wizzing past! Didn't go far, but would not settle after that and was spinning around a lot! ( usually the most laid back ever)

I'm having a lesson today, and going off road riding on Wed, so that should help. Like the others said take your time;

its only been a week so chill :-) your confidence will come back just take its slowly. it is completely natural to lack confidence after a fall- its your minds way of avoiding getting hurt again. its great you've got back on even if you didn't do loads.

would it help having somebody there like a friend or instructor? i got on my new boy on sun and was very nervous until somebody came in and gave me something to do and focus on. xx
