Hello i kniw not strictly c&t but wanted yoyr opinion. My tb is 7 and damaged his hamstring last december he has had regular physio since but just couldnt cope with gentle exercise so i decided to give him the winter off while he recovered. I actually realised he hadn't had a break for 2 and a half year anyway but now im feeling increasingly guilty is this just me wanting to get back on him??

Speaking from my personal experience (for what its worth), If my horse is on field/box rest due to recovering from an injury etc., i find all the more frustrating that i can't ride them and that the rest is enforced, whereas if the weathers pants and i don't want to ride etc., i find it doesn't bother me that theyre getting a break.

Is there anyone around who needs help with exercising their horse, so you can get your riding fix whilst yours is still recovering maybe?

I hardly ride at all during the winter, have only ridden once since 2nd December! Once the weather improves I will get back on him. I am sure he doesn't mind and he is healthy and happy. Perhaps when he is healed and it's a bit warmer you will feel like getting back on him.

Just because i suppose i dont feel like im spending as much time with him! But you have all made me feel much better thankyou :) im hoping it will do him good :)

My boy whose the same age as yours had the summer off. We took his shoes off and chucked him in a field whilst my RI checked on him and I went travelling for 3 months. Best decision I have ever made, he grew up so much over the summer and came into work a right babe. The break from shoes did his feet good too. Don't feel guilty, in the long run its unlikely to be damaging :)

My boy re did his tendon sheath last weekend, and has to have time off again. I have not cantered in 1 1/2 years because of this damn tendon just walk and trot, we don't seem to get anywhere so I know how your feeling.

My girl has been off since last feb. We're only doing hacking & about 45 mins of 'light' schooling in paces up to abit of canter but definitely no where near 'proper' work. I see no point riding in the week as work/too dark & I only school for a lesson which is very basic.
She teared a hole in her meniscus & had surgery in July if people were interested
