Does anyone want these? My friend need to find a good home for her mare asap, and no time for her. But we cant seem to find anyone, the mare is rideable, and nothig wrong with her. Or could just retire and be a companion.

Where is the best place to advertise her??

What are her stats and why can't she find a home?

I think that there are people out there who will want a companion or hack, but with the credit crunch and the fact that young horses seem hard to sell at the minute it may take awhile.

Shes a mare and 15.2, i think is fairly chunky. (ID cross)

She isnt wanting £, just a great home. She hasnt imo tried v.hard to find her a home, just needs her gone asap.

Will try local tack shops, do you think its worth tryng the internet too?

choose very crefully where she goes, if you just give her away to anybody you wont know where she will end up, instead of giving her away , have you thought about a permenent loan, that way your friend can keep in touch and have any say of what happens to her.

How old is the mare?

You could try a riding school if there are any good ones nearby, as they're not always just looking for plods.

Shes 20 ish. I havent seen her yet, my friends moving her to my yard today so i can help her out when shes working ect. Do riding schools/ equine colleges take them at this age tho??

Where in the country is she?
Would she be suitable as a light hack?
Is she good in traffic?
We have a 24year old mare who needs a field companion.
We are in Oxfordshire

I have pm'd you.
If anyone else is in the situation we have a waiting list with vetted homes - passed my extreme vetting

for old rideable as in gentle hacking horses. Rhey are just not about.

Difficult one as I was offered my loan horse (he was 20) for a nominal £50 but I didnt take up the offer as I was pregnant at the time and decided to give him back to his owner anyway (he wasnt really a long term prospect for me anyway) and then I heard that 6 months later the new loanee who had him for 3 months after me did buy him for £50 and then sold him 3 months later for £1500. I know that once you sell a horse you cant make the decisions on what the new owner does but still... I would find it quite hard to deal with and his original owner was heartbroken (and rather annoyed) as she just wanted a good home for him hence giving him away more or less. I think there are plenty of happy hackers out there but I would warn your friend about being doubly sure about who the mare goes to and what the receivers really will do with her. On the other hand she may not be that fussed really. Agree that local tackshops / feed rooms better than internet and what about the local pony clubs - a Mum may want a horse to ride or as a companion?

My horse is retired due to arthritis and I would never ever sell him, but I am looking for a horse to hack.

I live in scotland.

I would be very careful where you let her go to, there are some bad people out there.

If she is sound and healthy and can do a bit of work we might be intrested in her. Could you PM me - for a riding school ( but we care for them as well as any owned horses and I can get refrences!)
