Some of the horses where i work are quite partial to bananas, how many do people normally feed in a day and are there any reasons to not feed them?

Mine loves bananas! He isn't too keen on them when they're only just ripening (ie, green to yellow) but he always gets out bananas from home when they're going brown - loves them like that. He eats the skin when they're brown, too.

I am sure they must be good for them as they're good for people :)

Ours all go ...well... bananas for them

They love them dried as well. A really good, and cheap, treat for them is a bag of dried banana slices (chewy ones, not the hard chips)

These pack a lot of flavour, the bag lasts for ages, they only need one slice as a treat - and I hapilly give these to my laminitic pony because they only get a few slices.

we have 1 horse on the yard who can't get enough of bananas, yet there is another who practically spits it out! :D
a friend feeds her arab gelding banana every day in his morning feed, skin and flesh and he loves it too.
i guess they are a source of potassium as well?

My boys hate bananas! I know some horses that love oranges! My boys love blackberries, got bushes on one side of their field and also they love a peach or nectarine once in a while!!

I always give them to ted when we have some that are starting to go too brown... He absolutely loves em, however his neighbour looked at me in disgust on offering him a teeny piece... This from the horse that eats everything and suffers from diabetes lol

My boy will leave his tea if there's a banana on offer :D
ETS - (many) years ago I had a little old pony who loved oranges and was also partial to the odd...onion!

A couple of the guys here really love them, i was just wondering if you could over feed them as i believe they are quite high in Pottasium and Magnesium (?)

Mine used to like them until he sussed out I was putting sedalin inside :) now he will get all enthusiastic for one then spit it out with a look of disgust when he rememebers the taste. No fooling my boy lol

Murphy eats them like a carrot - skin and all. Bites half off and eats it then comes back for the rest. Haven't tried Blue and Aii with them, but Blue eats everything so I doubt she'd be fussy
