OK, I have a fantastic 2year old.
He has had more injuries than the local A&E has seen.
Hes fantastic with needles/sedation/twitching/pain...everything EXCEPT taking medication orally.

I need to give him danilon. Its meant to not have a taste but hes having none of it!. Sugar beet, jam, peaches etc etc. Not a chance!.

Tried dissolving it so I could syringe it down his throat but it doesnt work, turns all yucky and would go through the syringe (even with the top cut into a bigger hole)

HHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLPPPPPP

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get the bloomin stuff down his throat?

Try using a slice of bread and spreading syrup on it and griding the tablet if thats the form its in into a powder almost and sprinkle it over the syrup and fold it in half, they should love it.
My friends mare was funny about her medication and this really worked for her

Marmite sandwich? All the stuff you seem to have tried is sweet but I think Danilon is quite bitter so savoury Marmite may mask it better.

It's a right pain, my FB knows if you approach him or offer him something with an ulterior motive in mind. Our whole body language must be screaming at them that it is something suspicious !

Tried the bread sandwich with jam but will try marmite and syrup.

It really is a royal pain in the arse!
I`m sure I must have "HERE SOMES THE NASTY MEDICATION" tatooed on my forehead when I approach.

I changes to danilon instead of bute because its not meant to have a taste ...................yeh right!!

Crushed and sprinkled in a Marmite sandwich? Also try to make out it's YOUR marmite sandwich - take 2, eat one then allow him a bite of yours before letting him have the whole other one, I have to do this with the dog and wormers in a meat sandwich, normally he'd eat the meat sandwich if you so much as took your eye off it but they know!

I like the idea of Mint!

Never thought of that before.
Dont have any dry stuff but got mint growing at home so will try chopping some of that into a small feed for him.

Failing that, its going to power injected up his bum!!!!

Had the same problem with my big lad when I needed to give him Sedalin. I got some mini jam doughnuts and put it in the middle, his face was a picture! He KNEW there was something in there but just couldn't resist!

Hope one of the suggestions works for you

just an idea.... but danilon also comes in an injectable form. if your horse is ok with needles as you say, cant your vet come and give you a short lesson in injecting him with it. at least this way you will know he has had the required dose, and you can stop having to con him. it will also mean no waisted medication. once you have done one injection its really easy. have a chat with your vet.

I`m giving him a weeks worth of anti biotics via the needle just now.
My vets great and I dont have a problem injecting.

Will maybe give him a phone.

Its SOOO annoying as my other horses would eat it out the sachet! Mind you, their just pigs....lol

Dont you hate it when they turn their noses up, so infuriating.

Thanks for all the suggestions, going to go home later and raid the herb garden and then the shelves for apple sauce etc...
