So tempting sometimes when people just zoom past without a thought in the world!! You don't have to be horsey to have an ounce of common sense, would it really kill them to slow down even a tiny bit for the sake of 3 seconds! Must of had a dozen people on motor bikes and cars just zoom past today, thank god i have a traffic-proof po!

I feel like doing that aswell, i get so mad when you get idiots speeding past. I only ride out on very quiet lanes when necessary, i dont find it fun or enjoyable to ride on any road these days.

I gave the middle finger salute yesterday to some ****head who nearly clipped me with his wingmirror as he passed us :/
He didn't react though!

I did that once while riding, when someone nearly took off my horse's backend. As I gestured at them impolitely, my shoulder dislocated! (I was waiting for an operation..) So I was then stuck, on a busy road, on a fit event horse, with my arm hanging in agony! Luckily i was near home and could shout and shout until my hubby came and rescued me!

I think that was karma teaching me to ignore idiots!

It's not just horses, only this afternoon I saw an oldish man nearly knocked down in a carpark, the car actually scraped past him even though he wasn't actually in the 'roadway':mad:

Lol good for you 'itsonlyme'. I would do it if it wasn't for the fact i don't think i look exactly intimidating on my 14 hand pony incase some big bloke stopped!!

I never feel like giving the finger!!, why would I when the ' shacking the beans' gives a better and much clearer signal :D especially when a 6 year old child on a small pony have a lanzorote revving up to at least 60 mph next to us, and no iT was not a man !!,!

'shaking the beans' - this is brilliant and an expression to bare in mind!

i'm tired -translation please :o

I once had a van come round the corner on the wrong side of the road & was so close it caught my stirrup which scraped down its side. Made a whole range of hand gestures at its retreating back end.

love that ''shaking the beans'' haha :D luckily the drivers where i am are very considerate of horses on the roads thank god otherwise i dont think i would enjoy hacking out.

I also give a massive thankyou as I am grateful to all that slow down, but give ' shaking the beans' to all that do not.

Tbh makes me a bit teary when people do slow down, it is that rare of an event :(

Not just wheN riding, in van other day gave way to car then BMW 4x4 kept coming although it was my right of way shook head to her only to receive middle finger, just as. She thought she was better than me, stuck up person.

Yep have to stress how polite i am to the ones who do slow down though, a smile and a nod goes a long way! It of because i tend to get mums in cars with kids and babies that zoom past, and teen lads slowing down - just goes to show you can't stereotype! :p

How rude people have become these days. Do these gestures really help? (I mean the crude insulting ones, not the polite thanking ones.)

Gosh I must be very lucky where I live as I rarely meet a rude driver but we are decked out fully in hi vis including 1/4 sheet on horse so drivers don't have an excuse not to see us

I dunno, but you know what I wondered yesterday - how come I slow right down and go wide round cyclists (who always take up the whole road, fair enough I know they need to make their presence) - yet they NEVER ever wave to say thanks, yet we're expected to on horses??

I think that if you are on a horse you ate immediately thought of as a rich stuck up bitch plus bikes don't often shy into the path of vehicles or get spooked by cars.. I always make way for slower road users and don't expect a wave of thanks as slowing down for 30 seconds is not a big deal

I make an effort to either wave if I am on the flat or nod if I am on a steep hill and can't take hands on handlebars, A lot of cyclists I know do this but sometimes the drivers miss us saying thanks :D
