I have found that since stopping riding (except for very odd occasion) I seem to have destressed somewhat.
I don't have to worry if horse is going correctly or my riding position or ability, I don't spend pounds on tack etc, I don't have to fight with nappy horse. However on the down side I don't seem to spend much time with horses
other than doing basics for them. Im beginning to wonder if Im getting to the stage of giving up the horses altogether.
Maybe just a phase because of the terribly high temperatures. Don't know why Im posting really just thinking out loud!

Aww, there are lots of things you can do with them though, you just have to set aside the time! Depends if you want to or not though?

I have only had my horse since October and pony since I think March and have been through fairly long periods of not riding, mainly due to confidence but also exams etc. I love just being around them hence why I don't prioritise the riding, but I do find I immediately feel closer to them when I actually ride and do things!

I was forced to give up all contact with horses for thirty years. I hope I never have to again, my life is so much richer again now.

I know what you mean. I love riding and have only had a horse for 2 years, but when for whatever reason I can't ride, I don't actually spend much time with him. I'm not one for endless horse beauty treatments (and neither is he). I do lunge, but that doesn't take as long as riding. I muck out with him in the stable but I think if I couldn't ride, I wouldn't spend the money or energy on keeping a horse.

But then I know a lot of people who breed and show and never get on one of the many horses they own!
