Giving up smoking - anyone vaping instead?

Another vaping ex smoker here. 2 years in May. I have gone through major surgery, husband leaving, having to sell my mare and loosing my 2 dogs without going back onto cigs so I can safely say I won't be smoking any time soon!

Well done!! Although I have never smoked, I know how hard it is to quit - I am yet to quit chocolate, haha!

The OH has smoked a huge amount for 10yrs, almost to the day. He quit on Christmas day and has been vaping ever since. The smell is really inoffensive, I think he uses blackberry? Or maybe mixed berry. It's nice when he comes to bed smelling of berries, instead of those awful cigs!!

Good luck!

I'm now well over 2 years off fags after using the Allen Carr book. I've given up loads of times over the years, get to 4 or 5 months, put on weight, panic about being a "non" smoker rather than a "given up" smoker and almost deliberately start again. This time I thought vaping may only be a compromise but it beats the hell out of smoking and I'm happy with mine. Only use tobacco flavour, 11mg and buy on line from Smokshop.

Keep going!
At school in Biology we did smoking and lungs (that sounds like we smoked in lessons ? we didn’t!)
So longer ago but there’s little things in your lungs called Cillia (?) something like which help move rubbish out of your chest. When you smoke you damage these things and they stop working.
A worsening chest on giving up can be a sign that they are coming back to life and starting to do their job again. Hence the reason lots of quitters say they cough more having stopped than when they smoked.
You will get through that stage.
As you can tell I’m no scientist but that’s one of the few things i remember!
My friend stopped from 40 a day due to vaping and still does it now a few years on but not as much. She’s done so well and swears without her vape she’d have started again long ago

Allen Carr Easy Way to Stop Smoking ... its a book, audio book, there are one day clinics around the country you can attend. Do yourself a favour and use the Easyway to stop smoking. No feelings of deprivation, no withdrawals, no side effects .... other than feeling free and awesome for seeing drug addiction for what it is and knowing you will never go back. I used the method for drinking alcohol (also a highly addictive drug) and that was about 5 years ago (5 years August I think!) and I always say you could pour a bottle of champagne over my head and i wouldn't even lick my lips :p

Allen Carr Easyway :)

ETA ... I HATE the words 'giving up' .. there is nothing to 'give up'. You have stopped smoking and if you weren't putting that disgusting nicotine vapour into your body then you would be free from nicotine within hours of STOPPING smoking. Nicotine is a highly addictive dangerous drug but once oyu have stopped it soons leaves your body. Its the mental side of stopping that people struggle with not the physical side. Good luck, i hope oyu see vaping for what is it and stop asap :(

I have never smoked but last year I spent the evening at a friend's and she and her partner sat in there lounge and and they were both vaping through the night, I felt awful the next day obviously because I was sat there breathing it in as well, I did ring her and tell her because her young daughter was also in the room with us for a while and it can't be doing her any good especially if it's most evenings she is also breathing it in.

I've been vaping for 3 years. Before this I was smoking 20 a day. I didn't do patches, just swapped across. I'm still addicted to nicotine but haven't missed smoking since vaping. I cant stand the smell of cigarettes now and I've saved 1000s.
It did take me time to find the right vape kit (it's a bit of a midfield as so many on the market). My advice would be to go to a shop (once open) and get set up by someone that knows what they're doing. Not all kits are equal and the real budget ones might not hit the spot.

I'm a terrible smoker, have done for years. I know I'll never give up but I do enjoy my Vape too in between, but no sweet flavours only tobacco and menthol. I saw an ad on TV just the other day for something called Voke (I think) it seems different, no liquid, charge the fag up for 5 seconds each time, its not cheap but looks interesting. I may try it

Me and my oh gave up smoking in december 2016.
20 a day each was a habit no one could afford!

I gave up using the Allen Carr book alongside Champix. Its been 4 years now. Folk dont believe when i say how good that book was..but Im sure it was a great help.
For anyone else curious about this book ..its not Allen Carr the comedian but a bloke who shared his name and was a hypnotist.

Aware this is a zombie thread but if anyone wants to stop smoking I would also recommend the Alan Carr book. I stopped 30 years ago and had a serious addiction (40 a day) I had tried so many things including hypnotism, acupuncture, nicotine patches and gum and also will power. I failed every time but this book changed my life and my attitude to smoking. Please try it, I couldn't imagine a life without smoking, it was the punctuation in every thing I did but I can honestly say I stopped using this approach and never thought I'd start again although I do very occasionally dream that I have started again but wake with a feeling of relief.
