Today me and Gizmo headed off to Onley Grounds Equestrian to do the riding club area team showjumping. We were representing Solihull RC in the novice, which had about 70 entries so was a very long day- my first round was 9:30am and second round wasn't until 1pm! Luckily though the sun was shining so it was a pleasant day
I was first to go in my team so felt quite pressured as didn't want to let them down! But Gizmo was ace, she popped round the first round easy peasy with just a little look at the double at 5 which quite a lot of people were having problems with! So we got a clear round (which turned out to be quite rare as the course seemed to be causing a fair few problems). Unfortunately the rest of my team didn't do so well, with 2 of them getting eliminated and the 4th having 12 faults, so it became an individual competition for me lol!
Waited the 3 hours between my rounds in the sunshine and finally it was my turn for my second round. It had only gone up a hole or two, and was over the same course so I was a bit worried that she would get a bit fast as she knew where she was going. Luckily though she jumped even better than the first round for another clear! Yay!
This meant waiting for the individual jump off, which had 12 people in. I was about 7th to go and watched the first few go very fast but have a fence or two down as they had put it up fairly big. I thought I had no chance, but I decided to go for it anyway! Gizmo has never really done any jump offs being an eventer and all
so didn't expect much- she flew the first, tight turn to the next and got the stride perfect but was a little fast and flat so had it down
Carried on quickly though as there hadn't been any clears so figured I could at least get placed with a fast 4 faults. She flew the last few fences and posted a very quick time!
I assumed I hadn't done any good but waited around incase I got a rosette. As it turns out, no one went clear and Gizmo had the fastest 4 faults!
So we WON!!!!!!!!!
Looks like a long trip to Lincoln for the championships now
Did not expect Gizmo to do so well, I am so proud of my little baby pony (and now considering giving up eventing and becoming a showjumper, much to mums disgust
).
