so, to recap... Tom came out of his stable a fraction stiff after a gentle hack, nothing major barely unlevel in fact, but was worse after he'd been turned out. Vet came, could really find a problem, thought it was a pulled muscle in the gaskin on the near hind, advised bute and box rest for 3 days then reasses. He reassesd but couldn't find anything, and advised we turn him away for a few days and see how he gets on. My sister wasn't convinced this was the right thing to do so has turned him out with boots on, and tried to keep him in the smallest paddock to restrict his movement a bit as he's inclined to charge about, and he's only been out for a couple of hours a day. But she called another vet we use today for a second opinion. She (the vet) said that its likely a suspensory ligament in the other hind leg!!!:eek: So the original vet wasn't even looking in the right area!

Tom is going for a scan tomorrow morning. think the original vets will be getting a bill from the other vets!

thanks guys, my sister is distraught either way tbh, Tom is very special to her (tho aren't our own always special to us?), and she can't believe that this is happening. She's kicking herself for going with the first vets (who we've used without a problem for 35 years) and not the second (who we've only used for 10 or so, and only for Tom's sidebone) in the firstplace. She's also kicking herself for not picking up that he was lame in the other leg, tho in the vets defence, he has one white and one balck hind leg so it's always hard to tell if he's sound behind.

Having never had a horse with a tendon/ligament injury I'm very interested to be watching the scan and to hear what's said, I just hope for everyone's sake that it isn't a suspensory as Tom is a nightmare on box rest.

Tell sis it's really hard to see which leg horse is lame on! He may well have an issue on both, i.e. a kick on one and something going on re. the other. I have this on good authority! Having been watching LC and trying to figure out which one he was lame on (turns out, effectively both).

With regards to the SL possibility, the only ways I've seen those determined is watching lunged on different surfaces (soft and hard) and then scanned, so she wasn't to know!

Hugs and hot chocolate to her (and you, just in case I didn't sent one earlier).
