hey,
tday i was brushing my neddy and i noticed her glands were up on her neck? i freaked out a bit thinking STRANGLES but got some v.experienced girls at my yard one who is a equine vet in training and they said it wasnt (thank god!!) she didnt seem of colour or off apitite she was quite jolly. my friends horse had recently had his glands come up.
Any one elses horse or pony had this happen ? and can anyone tell me why ? xx

My mare's glands come up when she has been out at grass for a while or when she is on very short grazing my vet said it was sometyhing to do with the muscle behind the gland working hard and making the glands look like they are swollen, I really would'nt worry about it x

My lads glands come up in winter after he has been out in the field all day. The first time I saw it I had a major panic! Apparently it's something like, they are working harder to eat the grass as it's so short, this in turn has something to do with the saliva and causes the glands to swell.
Or something like that! As long as they have gone down by tommorow morning

My chap has this problem all year round, some days he's really swollen and others not alot. I don't ask too much of him when I ride him if he's a bit swollen as it must be a bit uncomfortable

! When he moved fields (temporarily) it didn't happen so I wondered if there was something in his field that was causing it to happen.
Moving yards next weekend so will be interested to see if it stops???!

my mare gets it aswell, sometimes they are quite bad and other days she has no swelling... was quite worried at first but it doesnt seem to affect her, she gets it more in the summer but when she swaps feilds its not so bad.. so i just put it down to her eating the wrong stuff ( lil bugger
