I've had Markie coming up for 5 months now. I've always wanted a gypsy cob and specifically looked for an older horse to have to be pampered with occasional light hacking. Whilst being older, he's 19, he's turned out to be way more than a light hack!
He's been to 5 shows this year, 4 veteren classes, 2 heavyweight/cob classes and 1 coloured class and never been out of the ribbons. Every show there's been a championship, he's been in it!
He's also been cross country, twice doing minimus pairs and, yesterday, did a novice solo course. Hasn't stopped or hit a fence and, yesterday, he was the only horse in it where the rider wasn't wearing spurs! Both times in the pairs it was the other horse that got faults, yesterday's novice class he was, technically, one of only 2 clears as his rider (old owner came for a day trip) jumped a wrong fence!
He's also been on the mock hunt. As he's never hunted, I thought it woud be safer to go in an enclosed area, with a time limit, in case anything went wrong! He was a superstar, rather enjoyed being up with the fieldmater most of the way. Markie had no problem diving into the water, although he was filthy!
Some people don't like cobs, some people shy away from older horses and some people are downright unpleasant when you're horse does well! We've had a lovely summer, the only plans for winter, so far, are 2 or 3 hunts (the local ones!) and musical dressage at Christmas.

I am so glad everything is working out so well for you both. Too many people pass older animals over, its great to see your boy ended up in such a good home.
