I bought some years ago but the pony would NOT eat it 'cos of the smell, lol!
Should imagine if your horse eats it and sweats out the smell it would keep vampires' away!
Shall keep watching this thread........ TBH I'm a tad cynical of stuff that claims to be this or that; its very easy to spend a fortune on gunk that just doesn't work, OR you can buy the component parts of it far more cheaply elsewhere.
The problem is that my boy has Sweet Itch, and a great many of the proprietory "fly repellant" supplements have garlic in - garlic is contra-indicated for SI as it can cause over-stimulus of the immune system, and as SI is an immune system disorder, this isn't exactly what you are seeking to achieve....
Gave it to my sweet itch mares last year before the 'season' started...did nothing at all..don't bother with in feed supplements now after trying most of them.
I was very cynical about herbal stuff till I tried the frisky mare, and it turns my very hormonal mare into a little lamb. I have to be careful not to give her too much it works so well!
So I had hopes for flyfree
I use it for my sweet itch pony after discovering that it has common ingredients to the much more expensive Skratch. I would say it definitely makes things better for my pony but its only one of the list of things i do to keep his situation under control
At £12 a tub which lasts him about 5 weeks (11hh pony) its not beyond my reach where i wince at the price of Skratch
I started off with a tiny amount and added mint and within a month he was up to full dose and no mint and he is quite a fussy eater
Ive used it and it is really good stuff, it's also good for skin conditioning if your horse gets grease and scurf, the main ingredient if I recall is turmeric and garlic and something else which escapes me. You have to feed quite a lot which can be overpowering but they do get used to it. I dopped my mare down to just a scoop and it still seemed to work well.
