Hey guys,

Just wondering what brand you'd recommend for the best Glucosamine supplements?

My boy has very mild arthritic changes in his coffin joint, and I'm really wanting to get on top of it before it starts getting worse. So if anyone could recommend some supplements/therapies, it'd be great!

I'm currently using Equine America Glucosamine and I've just ordered a pair of magnetic hoof boots for him too

Thank you :)

Whichever brand you choose, look at the label. Too many companies describe the product as a glucosamine supplement, when it is full of dextrose or other filler. Some of the biggest names do this. Look for 100% pure glucosamine and look to pay around £40 a kilo for the proper stuff. I work in the human nutraceutical market and know how much the stuff costs!

I used to use Newmarket Joint supplement which is the Glucosamine HCL - recommended by my vet but it is expensive....

I now also use the glucosamine from Aviform, purely due to cost as my horse has a wonderful variety of other health issues and I just could not afford the NJS....but to date (and touch wood) I have not noticed any deterioration and their customer service is very good....

That's because NJS is pure glucosamine HCL, and so is Aviform! Same stuff, different company. NJS just charges more.
I have slight concerns about the quality of the Gl you can buy in branded pots, so get mine from my vet. I pay just over £100 for a 2.5kg tub, and am perfectly confident that she wouldn't buy, or sell, rubbish
