Hi Guys,

I've been advised by my vet to put my 19yr old on a glucosamine supplement as he's starting to trip a bit when we're schooling, which she's put down to some stiffness in his knee's. She recommended a tub that's £154 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so i was hoping you'd all know some cheaper yet still as effective products and where to get them from??

Any advice welcomed! xxx

simplysupplements.com 1000mg human's tablets, feed 5 a day. The cheapest way by far to feed a horse glucosamine. Add MSM off eBay if you like £15 a kilo, even cheaper on their website. Feed 7g a day.

I would highly recommend vetvits equiflex, combination of glucosamine and chondroitin and ones of the highest levels of the components too, and not overly expensive currently with £1 off per order, so £16.95 inc delivery! on maintenance the tub should last a 500Kg horse 8 weeks, though I feed mine at the loading dose so lasts 6 weeks.

Also take note that there is glucosamine HCL and glucosamine 2KCL, the first is believed to be a purer and more superior derivative of glucosamine. http://www.a1msm.co.uk/glucosamine.htm

What brand were you recommended by Vet?
My vet sold me cosaquin (1 kg) for £160, then I wised up and found it for 80 - 90 quid on internet.
However see current post on New Lounge about efficacy of arthritis supplements

I use Equine America's (same people who do cortaflex) Glucosamine with MSM. It costs £15 a tub and lasts at least 6 weeks for my mare. Hope that helps

The only problem with glucosamine and chondroitin is it has been proven not to do ANYTHING. The biggest trial ever done, proved it to have no more success than placebo. I took it for about six months myself, as it did nothing I looked into it and discovered the trials.
