I've been recently feeding this to my warmblood who is recovering hopefully very slowly from a deep flex tendon injury. Was just wondering would this supplement be actually benefiting him? Been feeding it for around a month but I know if so I will have to always keep feeding it.

I wouldn't have thought so, it's supposed to improve joint movement, aiding the synovial fluid. Nothing to do with tendons so far as I know.

I have used it successfully with an elderly cob who stiffened up easily. However, I have also had trouble with the same supplement and an IDX mare who reacted badly to the sugar content, have you ever tasted the stuff?

Its my understanding that Glucosamine always works better in conjunction with Chrondroitin. Don't know whether that is still the case, but it was when I researched it about 8 years ago, and my horse has been on maintence dose of the Equine America G/C & MSM since then. I believe it supports tendon growth and repair as well although it is better known for joints health.

If you want to go down the natural route, comfrey and meadowsweet which are herbs are also good for this type of injury.

I've been feeding mine Equine America.. Would you drop it out of the feed? Don't wanna be feeding it if it's not gonna help him with recovering and preventing it again?

Well that's what I hoped and got told.. Was feeding another supplement with gluecosamin in and extra herbs but it was around 40 quid for a months supply so changed down to something a little more into budget..

You need to be aware that it may not work for your horse. It has very mixed results in humans. I've had multiple surgeries on knee joints and took it for a long time (and also with the chrondroitin combined) and it did absolutely nothing, it can work for others but I wouldn't want any to pin hopes on it being a miracle supplement.

It was recommended to me for improving the bone thickness in my joints but as far as I know it does not aid repair of tendons etc. can your vet recommend something that has a little more research/success rate in horses?

I fed mine equine america glucosamine for 2 months while he was recovering from an operation to his tendon sheath and annular ligament. Not sure if it worked or not but I wanted to give him the best chance possible (otherwise he was heading for rainbow bridge) and he's pretty much mended. His recovery was quick and straightforward and the vet is very happy. He's 6 weeks into ridden work now.

I stopped feeding EA because I have put him on a balancer which already contains glucosamine. His chaff contains MSM and I add turmeric.
