I am looking to get your views on Glue on shoes of any make. Can anyone tell me do they still need to be applied by a farrier or can you just buy a size and do it your self which i find hard to belive people would do.
I ask as we are thinking of stocking them where i work and i am against it as i think it may show the wrong idea that you do need a professional to see to your horse's feet.

Please let me know your views is great research (what about old macs and these sort of horse trainer shoes what are your view on these too??)

I think you will have a lot of aggro from people bringing them back because it was not as easy as they thought. Unfortunately anyone can trim a horses feet, but only a farrier can nail a shoe on. I assume that anyone can try to glue a shoe on.

My own farrier says he has some customers and it is a nightmare to do , because everything has to be "perfectly clean" or it just doesn't work.

My friends TB mare had nasty abscesses late last year and as a result of cutting away at them she had terrible feet. She had to have glue on shoes for aboot 8 weeks as her feet were too thin to have nails in. Basically, they were a nightmare. I was with the farrier both times he put them on and they're difficult to do and time consuming, as well as being fragile and if you dont get them on right first time that's it. I'm not sure if there are different kinds of glue on shoes but these were a real pain, certainly wasnt a case of apply the glue & stick on. I'm sure other people must have had more positive experiences with them but i wouldnt use them unless 110% necessary. I bet you'd have a fair few people trying to glue them on incorrectly and trying to return them when they break.

sounds like they are a good idea in theroy but a bit of a trauma to put on and not a good thing to do with out a farrier..
Anytone know of anyone who has tried to put them on by them selves??

it is a farrier only job, mine has had some on at times. didnt find them a pain at all i have to say, she kept them on for the full 4 weeks, and they were slightly harder than normal for farrier to remove but not a hassle. i think they do the job well, and really cannot imagine many people being stupid enough to try and do it themselves! when nailing is not possible it think these are a very good option.
