I'm doing another Dressage test at Golden Cross on wednesday, Prelim 18 only this time, can't face doing another novice just yet!

Theres no rush to do Novice - Axel has years ahead of him!!
If you aren't happy doing Novice with him yet, just keep having fun in your prelims!

Good luck with it. Just remember its all about ENJOYMENT so if you dont feel 'up to' doing a Novice again - DONT. Go and enjoy doing the Prelims till you feel more ready to move on.

Thank you, the trouble is that he's just sooooo spooky and even though he's going lovely at home as soon as he gets into the indoor arena at Golden Cross he's like a tense, wild naughty pony and goes around the arena like a giraffe

Ah! We had the same thing with General. Its an insecurity issue. All I can suggest is you get out and about as much as possible. Even now if Gen hasnt been out for a while he reverts back to Mr. Spooky - but it is improving.

Bear with it - it does improve. I take it Axel is only a youngster? Gen is now rising 7 and it has been a bit of a slog but the more he has been out and done the better he has got. His first few Prelims were TERRIBLE!!!

Yes Axel is only 5 and we have only been out competing this year, although he was shown in-hand as a 2 and 3 year old.
I've only just got my own transport and I'm trying to get him out at least once a week, but the last time we went to GX he was terrible much worse than the first time he went there!
I'm going to try and hire the place for an hour and see if I can get him to settle then hopefully the next tiem we go for a comp he'll be ok
