Go Laura

dont be too harsh on the showjumpers. Unlike dressage, theirs is not a subjective sport depending on opinion, if you ran this class tommorow in Holland, you would get an entirely different result and another in germany and another in sweden etc etc. with showjumping the best man/woman wins, there is no argueing with the clock or the fences being intact or not.
still well done to her anyway..

oh and for the record i have seen the winner compete a couple of times and think it goes much more correctly than tortilas so i am glad she won today.

Goodness, I'd forgotten that restriction. Bad luck for the Dutch & Germans who miss out because of their strength in depth, but great for GB!

I just mean that the our Dressage riders have come on so much in the last few years, we have just won 2 medals in 2 competions. With the showjumpers we use to be at the very top, winning all the nations cups etc, we have just seem to lose that lately. We may be coming back into it i little more recently and i may be taking my words back if we win a medal but thats how i see it.

I must admit i have always thought it was a very unfair rule - Lucinda Fredericks missed out in the Olympics because the Aussies had 4 in the top however many. Riders shouldn't be penalised just becasue their country has strength and depth in the squad.

but i don't mind to much this time because it works to our advantage!!!!

I went today but only ended up watching two! I saw Emma and Lancet and the one before her but it was too darned hot in the open stand and I remembered why I thought dressage was boring (yes, I'm a pleb!) I wish I had been there for the dressage to music or the jumping but the times didn't work out. I did enjoy watching the warm up, interesting to see the riding outside does not match up to the riding in the arena on many occasions. Also interesting to see the difference between the jumpers having a fag and on the phone plodding about) and the smart dressage riders! I also went around all the shops with no husband in tow (and managed not to buy anything more than an ice cream!)

I also watched a Parelli demo to see if I was missing anything but it looked like a load of bored, pissed of horses to me.

if you read the thread properly i dont think i was. That is the reality of dressage compared to showjumping. I just didnt think it was fair to rubbish the showjumpers even a small bit when there is nothing subjective about their sport.

Well, it did seem as though you were being rather negative about her achievement...but if i've got it wrong then I apologise. I realise dressage is aw it's very nature subjective, but in the here and now Laura's performance won her a bronze medal, which I think is fantastic.

Agree Sleeping Dragon, Laura's performance was fantastic - and the partnership was beautiful to see.

It's amazing and positive that this fabulous championship has provoked less 'armchair judging' than in the past.

Yes, dressage will always be a subjective sport but when you look at the results from yesterday, bar the judge at E who had a very slight difference placing Totilas first and Parzival second, the jury agreed emphatically on all three top placings.

Those riders rode their socks off and their horses are superstars and all beautifully trained, let's just applaud their talent and their efforts.
