How can things go so wrong in just one day? Had a fab weekend winning our first ever dressage test, schooled lovely on Monday over the XC fences at the yard not putting a foot wrong, worked lovely yesterday in walk and trot with plenty of lateral work, then today........
Had a lesson which in hindsight was probably not the best to have as had a bad day so was in a bad mood, but booked earlier in the week. Worked ok in walk and trot and then tried canter, not too bad on the right but awful on the left rein

I got so worked up about how bad it was I told Pidge off by rattling the reins on his neck and grumbling at him twice then got annoyed when he wouldn't stand still

My fault as he is a sensitive soul so picks up on what mood I'm in. I just feel so guilty for telling him off when it wasn't actually his fault but mine. I know I shouldn't take my bad mood out on him but couldn't help myself tonight. Not sure why posting this really but just needed to get it off my chest.

He does which makes it worse as I feel so guilty for it and he can just forget and forgive, suppose its one advantage of being a horse not a human
 
I had a lesson similar to yours this eve, he started off jumping so well but then got excited and started being silly and I just gave up riding, which made it worse then got in a sulk and instructor gave me a kick up the arse and I started riding him properly and we finished on a really good note

Ah don't feel bad.... at KLD says we are all entitled to bad days, and we have all been there,
I regularly have to drop the reins and stand in the middle of school thinking how crap I am

...a few deeps breaths and a 5 mins break, and carry on....9 times out of 10 it works.

Pidge I don't think qualifies as taking it out on your horse - thrashing him around, digging in your spurs etc all count - rattling the reins? Nahhh just a split second thing and you didn't hurt him. He'd have just gone "errr what mum?"

All he cares about is you arriving with a full bucket so don't feel bad

I know I mean I don't carry or use a stick and never use spurs so rattling the reins on his neck is about the worse he gets, trouble is he is so sensitive he has a wobble and his bottom lip quivers so I know I've upset him

Dont beat yourself up..I have seen people smack the horse round the head with the whip whilst up on it because it wouldent stand still.

Everybody,horses included are intitled to an off day.Thats what makes the good days even more special.

I know you're right we probably just both coincided having a bad day, only yesterday I was saying how good he'd been for the last couple of weeks, really nuckling down and doing what he's been asked to - suppose it was tempting fate really
 
Seriously, he can be a lazy and nappy arse and he gets a good rein rattle before he gets a slap to get his arse in gear

I think sometimes we have to give them a day off, or get off, when we are feeling RAAAAAAAAAAGH!
 
I know I should have chilled him off for a circuit and then picked up again but just went RAA at him

Giove yourself a break hun, we al have days like that. I know from previous experience that it's a bad idea for me to school him if my head isn't in the right place. I get very frustrated and irratible (mostly at myself for being rubbish!) if i'm not in the right frame of mind. Tend to go for a hack on those days now!!

I'm sure Pidge would have forgotten about it as soon as he had his dinner!!

Aww my boy does that will his bottom lip and its just adorable! Im sure hes forgiven you! Were intitled to have our bad days, as do horses. I get browny points off Jack when i stick carrots in his haynet, try it, he will love you lots lol
