Well, spoken to vet who is thrilled with how the operation went. Apparently all great, no problems, couldn't have gone better. Only slight glitch is that she has REALLY muscley back legs so he had to cut through quite a lot of muscle so she is going to be really sore and he is now saying 2weeks no walking, just light pottering around. Which is fine.

But just been to see her. God she's in a state. She can't stand, at all, but tried when she saw me and she just can't do it. Vet promises that tomorrow she'll probably manage and he even thinks she'd be able to come home tomorrow. we'll see how she gets on.

Anyway, she's crying and shaking and whimpering but she's still got that mammoth appetite so she can't be that bad! One of her favourite nurses is doing the nightshift tonight so I know she'll be well looked after.

Just so distressing seeing her unable to stand =[ hope she'll manage tomorrow.

On a brighter note, the comfy collar you guys recommended is FAB!

Sorry, this is a bit of a pointless post. But, you know.

Henry looked AWFUL when I saw him just after his op - he was whimpering and crying, he'd been sick and he couldn't get up either. But by the next day he had really bounced back, and by the time he came home, a day later, he was almost back to his old self. The anaesthetic can really knock them about, and it's a big op she's had, but I'm sure she'll be back to herself in no time, and it sounds like it went really well:)

I am sure some of it will be due to the anaesthetic. It takes a while to wear off.
Sounds like it went as well as it could though. :) Fingers crossed she is up tomorrow.:)

It all sounds really good for her:). The anaesthetic will be making her all pathetic:rolleyes: - it takes about 24 hours to really clear their system and i'm sure when she has had a proper nights sleep she will be fine!:)

In a way her muscley legs will be a good thing - it means she is fit and healthy so will recover so much quicker!:)

Hope she feels better tomorow, its horrible when they have to stay at the vets. Try not to worry and fingers crossed she will be back to her normal self soon.

Thats what I thought!! Was suprised when he said it was a disadvantage atm! But I suppose that it will soon become an advantage.

Just so distressing seeing her unable to stand. I don't mind the whimpering and the shaking because that all stopped when the nurse brought her some food ;) and thats just the GA. Just hope that she does as the vet says and learns to hop tomorrow!!

Chesnuttymare, she had a femoral head excision where they cut the ball off from the ball and socket joint - its surgery for hip dysplasia.

Its understandable she was in a state tonight, have you ever had a GA, it does leave you feeling grim. All of mine have been rough after a general, even if only for a minor procedure, as you say, the whimpering and shaking is normal. Fingers crossed she is soon well enough to come home, but in the meantime she is in the best possible place, they will have loads of experience in dealing with dogs after this op and will monitor her accordingl

Hey flamehead - have been thinking about you and Chloe today :)

So glad to hear it all went well but it must be horrible for you to see her looking so poorly, but I am sure she will be much brighter tomorrow :)

There is no hurry for her to stand yet anyway xxx

So pleased the op went well and hope she is soon home. It's hard when they are poorly but as others have said it's amazing how quickly they recover and she'll soon be expecting you to see to her every need.
