Got a gorgeous nearly new Keiffer Ergonomic bridle off eBay which was delievered by the postman today. Unfortunatly I was out and so he thought it would be a good idea to leave it in the back garden with my GSD and manic springador

. Needless to say, got home today and packaging was all over the garden with the bridle lying on the lawn. Luckily the daft so and so has only chewed through one of the cheekpieces (german leather must not taste too good!) but now I need to find a new bit asap. Anyone got a spare one lying around that they would like to part with, just can't find one via google!!

Goddamn dog?? Don't you mean goddamn postie???
I hope you manage to get a replacement part, but i know who would be getting the bill -Royal Mail!!!!
PS i'm a postie, but would never leave a parcel over a garden fence, dog or no dog!!

I would think you would have strong grounds for compensation against royal mail but I would imagine that they may just give you what you paid for it rather than the market value (if you paid less than market value, if you get me).
As the parcel was left over the fence in garden and not somewhere secure you would have very strong grounds.
Unless of course you had, had post delivered by that method before in which case the postie would likely argue their case.
I used to have a biggish plastic box near door for parcels to go in and had a note on door instructing postman to leave in there if I was not in and it would fit in and was not recorded or special etc.
I did it because of seeing to horses twice a day and because there were different drivers the time they used to deliver was varied. If I had to collect the centre is about 7 to 8 miles away and is a jaunt due to the busy roads you have to take.
The box got damaged though and was chucked so need to get another really.
But I would def agree that no post of mine has ever been left by the door or by gate etc ( as they can't get round the back). It was either in the box or a note saying unable to deliver etc was pushed through.
I would recommend pushing for a claim. Forms are really easy to use as I have had to claim a few times for lost items sent to people which they didn't receive.
It is the same form you use as far as I know but you will need to check if it is you the buyer who claims or the sender as I am sure the damage etc in post etc is claimed by the sender. In which case I would see when you get the form and ask the ebay seller. It is no hassle to them and royal mail are pretty quick at paying out. Though due to the circumstances ( ie no damaged in transit and damage was caused by dogs as parcel was left in unsuitable place when it should not have been) it may not be as straightforward ( by that I mean as a timescale for them paying out as there might be a delay as they follow enquiries) as I would guess they will have to speak to the postie responsible.
Still I would persevere all the same as the seller has nothing to lose as they will receive compensation and then pay you what you paid. You may find you have to wait until the ebayer has received their money from RM though before they pay you depending on how nice they are.
In the future though I would possibly consider getting a plastic box of somesort or arranging an alternative delivery address ( say a neighbour) if you are not in or parcel too big etc then there is no way this would happen again.
Good luck
