Well, had a STUPIDLY early dr this morning, so at the ungodly hour of 4.30am I was down at the yard plaiting, in prep for a 8.12 dressage!!

Got there in plenty of time, walked a few XC lines I had lost sleep over last night and then got ready for the dressage! Goddy was being a very good boy, I decided to ride him without spurs for the first time at a comp for a long time, and he rewarded me with being soft and just nice! Went in early as someone had WD, and he did a lovely test, just a small blip in the walk as a horse went hacking down the road next to the arena (G is very nosey!!) and scored our best yet at BE, 33.3

Warmed up for the Sjing, it was usual Draycott, not particularly big except a HUGE wall at no 3?!!! No-one was ready to go, so I went in first of the day!! He jumped the first 5 beautifully, really pinging, and then I dont know if it was the ground or whether he just decided after jumping the only decent course on the fence he didnt need to put anymore effort in, and ended up having 2 down (again!!) Was a bit grrr, but only because he has been jumping so well at home, its just a case of transferring it out to a comp environment!!

It was now p*ssing it down with rain, and I was a bit

about the XC as I thought was a decent bold course, although not too technical!!
Neednt have worried, he jumped round really nicely, not looking at anything and giving all the "scary" fences fantastic jumps, and the smaller ones "I cant be bothered" efforts. Let him trot through the half coffin ditch to flower bed arrangement to work out what he needed to do, and the step out of water as knew the ground would be slippy on the two strides to the house, and was first time he has had to jump out of water. But he flew the log/step curve to flower bed arrangement, and the big scary chair to saw bench absolutely no probs. Was

after the XC!! We came home with 4.4 time which I was pleased with as treated it as an educational round with the ground being slightly slippy ontop!!

So we ended up 18th I think, but yet another good run for him, and think we are starting to crack 2 of teh 3 elements!! So just the Sjing to sort
tongue.gif
But very very pleased with my little man

Thanks to ISZ for getting some piccies of us, and was lovely to see Hairyhatman and Vix1978 again

2 out of 3 ain't bad!!!

That wall does look disproportionately big compared to the other uprights! Did it cause much trouble?

Well done!

Thanks, saw a couple had stops/knock a brick out of it. It did look rather out of place!! But Unfortunately G jumped it beautifully, then decided the others werent worth bothering with!!

The wall does look v big compared to the other fences. Glad he jumped it OK. Sounds like he is now OVER confident SJing (which is a lot better than his previous backing off) so I'm sure some gridwork and a lesson or two will sort him out!!

Well done!!

He looks stunning as usual. But i would say that wouldn't I? No he does. With all the hard work you are putting into him and with only the SJ nut to crack. You will get there in the end with him. Hope Calli turns out half as good.

He was odd today F, he started off overconfident then got less so as the round went on. Not sure if he was just being a lazy so and so or whether he was slowly loosing confidence as the round went on
confused.gif
Saw alot have similar probs though!!! Grids are doing wanders for him though
smile.gif

Heehee, sure Calli will turn out even better
smile.gif

Buster123, the pics dont really show how much bigger it did look!! Very strange!!

Thanks Fran and LadyTia, we are getting there slowly! But pleased with how much more consistant he is being this year
smile.gif

Was the ground sticky - perhaps he wasn't enjoying jumping out of it? We were at a WH show today (v firm slippy ground) and it was amazing how horses who jumped the first three fences absolutely beautifully, but then slipped on the turn to no4, suddenly shortened their stride for the rest of the course.

ALternatively was there a tight turn where you lost some rhythm for the rest of the course?

He is still going fabulously considering how green he was last year!!

Looks as if Godders needs bigger fences to make him put some effort in - perhaps he doesn't get out of bed for less than 1.05m now?!

It's great that he was so good cross country, and he's just slowing down to smell the flowers in the water...
grin.gif

Lmao!! He is obviously appreciative of the floral decorations (gay boy!!)
tongue.gif
Not sure re. the 1.05m comment!!
tongue.gif
He was SOO strong warming up though, although wasnt jumping aswell as last week, just couldnt seem to get it together as much! Hopefully our Sjing practise (!) over th next few weeks will help
wink.gif
He was great XC, though a bit unsure about the ground, hence why let him steady up for the combos so he could have a good look. Wanted a confident run today
smile.gif

Yeah it was firm and then started raining so the ground was literally changing as we went round!! The course was quite twisty, but that is better for him as stops him fixing on me!!
tongue.gif
But prob not so great as he would have felt it if it was slightly slippy.

Thanks, his record shows the improvement!! He has suddenly just clicked, long may it continue!!!

well done! that wall seems very big in comparsim to the rest of the course
tongue.gif

how does the new novice course look like at draycott?

None of the Nov course has been built yet!! I imagine it will be a big bold course, but the fences are so well built and presented they jump really well. Looking forward to seeing it though.

Thanks MH, just read your report, you need Sat nav for the SJing!!
tongue.gif
But well done, least that is first one out the way....

Thanks Severnmiles!

Thistle I hope so, he is certainly improving in confidence most of the time, just got to get the comp experience I think now to improve it out!! So lots of practise!!

Heidi, thanks, not sure on the looking good comment, but we are getting better at getting the job done!!
smile.gif

Yeah I am L, was looking at some photos last week, and realised it is almost exactly a year ago we were going round a 2'9 unaff ODE to get his confidence as he was so bad Sjing, we didnt know if we were ever going to complete a round, and XC could be a bit touch and go too!!

Well done - it all seems to be coming together now!

My lad just didn't want to know XC yesterday! Don't think he appreciated the ground and I think the fuel had just run out of the tank....
So back to MK for a confidence run around the intro before the PN at Eland. Do you know what it is like?
You're right about the wall - it did seem to stick out like a sore thumb
