Well an interesting one, and not the best of results, but pleased with him overall! Took him to Draycott for the Intro section, as this was to be only the second BE event he has completed all 3 phases in one way or another!
Walked the course last night, an thought it well upto height and "spooky" in places, with lots of things to challenge a relatively green 5yr old!
Anyway, got up at the crack of dawn, arrived for our 8.20 dressage, *yawn* Goddy was very chilled and pleasant for him, nice start to the day! Other than being swarmed with flies (
) warmed up nicely, wandered in to do our test and did an ok if slightly tense and in places slightly wonky test due to G trying to avoid flies/wanting to make friends with the horse next to him/generally wated to know everyone elses business but generally obedient except our first centre line which was beautifully straight, but about 2 metres away from the ACTUAL centre line (mown centre lines are very scary!!) and a moment of leaving the arena....
However, got a slightly mean 42.1. Ho hum, the worst mark he has ever got, but prob not for the worst test....
Onto the Sjing, never our strong point, and as alot of people know, we really struggled to get round at the beginning of the season....Anyway, warmed up, had one paddy in the warm up ring, but then went in and jumped a very green but pleasing CLEAR ROUND
Very very chuffed, as was beginning to think we would never see the day, and was an ineresting course of related distances and dog legs, so HUGE pats and smiles all round
Wandered down to XC 10mins before time, to find they hadnt started....30mins later and a bored Goddy, get going. He basically turned very green on me, had a silly stop at fence 2 just because I didnt ride him and was being complacent, but then popped through the angled roll top, the log down hill to the down step on a curve to the flowerbed on the buckle end, (big pats, he locked on and went
) the open ditch, the angled rails in the wood, the log on a curve to steps up, and then had a silly stop at the angled log to a skinny log pile. He saw the log pile at the last minute, and just wasnt sure what I was asking, so ground to a halt
Jumped it beautifully second time, through the water,(alot of encouragement for the house on the way out!) over the wall, the brush and then a big bold jump over the PN pumpkin cart and finish.
So disappointed with 2 stops, but he hadnt been out for weeks, and is at the stage where he needed runs back to back, but generally pleased with the way he jumped the "bolder" fences and considering we couldnt even get round a course of SJs 6mnths ago am pleased. Roll on next season!!
Thanks for reading....
