Going back to working with horses

There's a chance that I might be getting made redundant from my sales job. I've been vaguely thinking about going back to working with horses- I have a national diploma in animal care and worked with horses for a year and a bit.

I'm not a very good rider but am a decent groom. I'm also not very fit right now and I'm nearly 30.

I need people to be honest here- do you think it's something I should look into again? (Maybe not long term- a year or so at most.)

Do you currently have a horse? I would start getting fit, as this would at least give you an option.
There are some great non riding jobs out there, and some do have accomodation. Personally I would be less worried about the fact that you are not currently working with horses, and more concerned about your fitness to do the job. I enjoy working with horses, although these days I mainly ride.
 
Definitely look at working with horses, its another industry sector with jobs that you can apply to; never turn work down. Have you checked out yardandgroom.com? I find its the best place to look at jobs, although there is ****** all in Somerset...

Definitely start getting fit again, just start walking more out doors and getting your back strength up, everything else will come with the job. Maybe buy a bag of bedding and carry it round the house/office with you to get used to it:cool:
 
Sounds like a good way to get fit if you want to! Also if you want to get better at riding can you find somewhere where you can get a bit of help with that? Be more fun than just mucking out. I cannot imagine it will make you rich but if its something you are really keen to do then I would go ahead. Good luck! :)
 
Thanks! Yep, I'm on yard and groom and have applied for a couple of things. My job involves a lot of sitting so I've gradually been losing my fitness. Didn't help that I ******ed up my knee last christmas and couldn't walk for a good few weeks.

No, I don't have a horse right now. Money is a bit too tight.

What the heck. I'll see what sort of replies I get and go from there. If nothing else, I can show them to the dole to prove I've been looking. :lol:
